Memorial Day at Monkey World - Free entry

IMPORTANT UPDATE NOTE 06/06/07

Monkey World have contacted us to let us know that this is a Memorial day, intended for friends to come and pay their respects in memory of Jim Cronin. They aren't able to cope with high demand, and we hope you can respect their request for no further enquiries about free entry on this day. The note about this has been removed from the remaining weekly emails yet to be sent.

Back to the original post...

I have just read the spring 2007 edition of Monkey World's magazine Ape Rescue Chronicle. In there they have announced a Memorial Day in memory of Jim Cronin MBE - the co-founder of the rescue centre who passed away earlier this year.

The day is Saturday 30th June.

Don't think of it as a free day out - just remember to spend the money you save on buying merchandise or better still adopt-an-ape.

Remember they are a charity!

Enjoy.

I love that place! It's going to be so busy on that day though.

We were planning to go so it looks like it'll be then. We shall spend the ticket money in the park though instead of taking a picnic.

For those of you who haven't been, it's in Dorset just a couple of miles from Bovington tank museum. Having both a young son and daughter I thought it would be ideal to spend half a day at each..., after all if you spend a day at a zoo how long can you spend looking at the apes??
We spent all day at Monkeyworld (and had to return for the tanks) the enclosures are so large the animals have a great time and are therefore more entertaining. There are also swings and picnic areas etc. for the kids to let off steam (where one can observe the humans.., there are no chimps tea parties)
It's a full and wonderous day out, highly recommended.

I can't believe people are actually going to take advantage of a man dying to get free entry to the park, it's disgusting. The idea of the day is to remember Jim, if people don't know him/know of him and want a chance to say goodbye and pay tribute to him then they shouldn't go, it's just plain wrong. I happen to be a massive fan of Jim and all his work, I was absolutely gutted when he died, and i try to visit the park as often as possible and donate to them when i can, so this day is for people like me who genuinely want to pay their respects to a great man. I'm all for money saving but not in these circumstances! Ok rant over....I know most of the people who've posted are going/not going for the right reasons but i couldn't help feeling that a minority of people are just after a freebie at the expense of a dead man and abused apes!
