How to survive a long haul flight?

i fly long haul to hong kong, aust and thailand every so often.
have lots of interesting magazines with you, if you are not a book person. An mp3 with your favourite songs will be nice as well. Most airline have very good on-board entertainment, and you get to watch good movies.
try not to consume soft drinks or wine served on board. will upset your system. get plenty of sleep if you are arriving am, to prevent jet lag. drink plenty of water before flying

It's been mentioned before but getting up to walk around regularly is vital especially on a long flight - I remember someone on TV saying you should twist your feet at the ankles in clockwise and anti-clockwise directions to keep blood flowing freely.
Have fun out there! :beer:0 -

Often there will be a fold down changing table where you can lay your bits and bobs out. I take a flannel in a plastic bag and a bar of soap, undress and have a full sponge bath! Then use a face pack, or give myself a manicure or pedicure, fool around with makeup, shave my legs, etc. All the things that I just never get the time to do in peace at home. Dont try and do it all at once, space it out to a few visits over the flight. You can pick up lovely little travel kits of products from the airport. You might think its crazy trying to do that in the restricted space, but its actually not that bad, and when you've got all the time in the world, it doesnt matter if it takes a bit longer. Plus it gives you a boost and makes you feel much fresher. Just be sure not to take up a toilet just after a meal - thats when everybody wants to get in!
that explains why I had to Queue up for 30 minutes to use the toilet the last time I flew:D

What about sudoku (?) puzzles, either you will be so engrossed the time will fly or like me you will be bored to tears in five minutes and fall asleep!!
To be honest if you are travelling without children, with a few good mags and a bag of munchies, sounds like heaven to me!
Enjoy yourself!0 -

also if you make sure you drink cans of lager by the time you've done 5 or 6 trips to the loo the flights nearly over and you'll have met lots of new friends in the rows near the loo.0 -
Dress smartly and be nice when you check in and you could be upgraded. more chance as you are travelling alone and only need the one seat0

Good point - there's even an article on how to upgrade, it would certainly be more comfortable! :rotfl:

We were upgraded (once only tho', boo hoo) to Virgin Upperclass, it made the long haul outward bound flight wonderful, however having to come back 'cattle class' was hideous, knowing what it was like at the other end.
Last long haul flight we diid was Heathrow to San Francisco and back with BA. Outbound wasn't too bad, excited to be going on holiday etc, but return flight was endless and the staff, service, meals were not too good.
I used to do needlepoint and give myself a manicure on long haul flights before all the restrictions came in, but now can't use nail varnish and can't take needles on board, so now it's books, magazines, helping OH with crosswords
Tips> We always change our watches to destination's local time when we get on board and take those blow up neck cushions with us.
And don't you just hate those people in the seat infront of you who insist on tipping their seat right back giving you even less room0
