Sounds like a combination of bad timing and even worse 'friends'
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?
  • as long as you are insured you are ok. unfortunately a stolen vehicle can disappear forever within a day. it can be broken down to smallest of parts. There is no ways of policing this and controlling private garages. Try to prevent this in the future, but I guess it is a lottery only one with better odds.

i love the way people on forums try to be find flaws and buts in everybody's posts

for the record i lost my job not being able to travel up and down the country and the car was not insured as it expired 3 days before my holiday therefore no insurance on it whilst on holiday and car was stolen

    anything else detective?

You came onto the forum to ask a question, which is fair enough, people have tried to answer. But having experience of people in situations of vehicle theft, I know people often unintentionally leave out important bits of information, people become emotional (which you clearly were in your first post) and in that frame of mind logic simply goes out of the window.

There are bits of what you say which (for whatever reason) don't make complete sense and obviously there's some reason why the BiB have kept your car, as they themselves are probably suspicious of something you have or have not said/done.

"Forewarned is forearmed", if we are asking these questions, then you should hopefully be in the right frame of mind when the BiB are asking them too.

  • Is this the correct timeline of events?

    Lost job
    Stopped insuring car
    Went on holiday
    Car stolen

    it would be
Car insurance expired (paid full year)
    Went on holiday
    Car stolen
    Lost job:(

Did you report it stolen before or after it was found?

    I don't see why you'd be apprehensive about giving a statement. :s

Also don't understand how you lost your job because of it if it was uninsured and offroad, thus not being used

This whole story just doesn't add up!!!

As for leaving a key in the car... What's this hoping to achieve?

Actually, on that basis, even if it was insured I doubt the insurance company would pay out.

Could you have hired a car to get you to work? You could then sue your friend (if he has any assets).

Perhaps the OP intended to re-insure and tax the car when he/she got back from their holiday... only they couldn't because the car had gone. No car, no job.
