Barclaycard 6 payments late

Options
hey guys i have recently obtained my credit file and have an entry on there from barclay card that i had when i was 18 years old the account was started on 23/03/2005 i havent recieved a letter from them in over 4 years i forgot i owed them the money, however it had never gone into default and is still reporting as 6 payments late up to the current month the balance was £414 so i have made a payment and now all that is outstanding is £192. my question is this, when i pay the £192 the account should show as settled however will it still remain on my credit file for 6 years as it has been reporting 6 payment late markers for the past 4 years. i think i read something somewhere about delinquent accounts but im confussed could someone please shine some light on this situation as this is the only adverse factor on my credit report now

As it stands, it will stay on your report for 6 years from the settlement date.

However, if you really haven't had anything to do with it for 4 years and that was due back then, then they really should have defaulted the account 4 or so years ago. Or perhaps earlier depending on what you did or did not pay back then.

Which as defaulted accounts are always removed from your report 6 years after the default, wouold mean it would only remian on your report for 2 or so years more at most, albeit with a default.

Now the ICO is pretty clear on this, and they state in their guidance that:

"A record showing a series of payments as six months in arrears when this does not reflect the real payment history should not be used as an equivalent of a default"

Barclays are not the only creditor to abuse the system or misreport like this.

    See this thread ---> https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4070713

So you need to decide whether you would rather complain and perhaps accept a default that will show for a short time, or leave the record as it is and have it stay at least 6 years?

    hey femi!

yes i would rather have it being defulted rather than 48 months of 6 missed payments the credit limit is zero so i have no access to the account even if i wanted too, how would i go about getting the 6 payments late changed to a defult with barclay card? sorry to sound like a pain but i think its very under handed how they have played it on my credit file

Ok, so the account started in 2005 but when were the 6 missed payments recorded?

That really is taking the pee recording as that for that length of time, when there has been no payment or contact.

OK, so then you need to complain to Barclays as the people in the CL Finance thread I linked did to them, saying that you will take the matter to the FOS and ICO unless they correct the account history.

Read the ICO guidance also linked in that thread.

Hey guys i know I'm restarting an old thread but I need to clarify something, I paid my barclaycard that was showing 6 payments late for 4years on the 28th June, in July they updated my credit file to a zero balance still showing 6 payments late, however yesterday they updated my August month to CRedit file, this displays a zero balance and a green zero and it now shows as satisfactory however they haven't closed it? I assumed it would have been marked settled and not report as a green zero ?? Any ideas

    Thank in advance
  • If the late payments have gone and the account is showing as Zero and Satisfactory just ring Barclaycard up and ask to close the account, when this closes it will shows as settled and if you are lucky the default will not show at all

Accounts are only marked as settled if paid off and closed.
  • Hey thank for the replies just to clarify the credit limit is zero i have no card any more haven for years and they said they would never reissue the card to me so after repaying the debt I obviously thought they will automatically close it?
