Free iPhone 5 competition - Help/advice needed

Hi Guys,

I hope this is the right place to post.

Just wondering if anyone can help or has had a similar experience to me.

I remember a few months filling in a form online although i can't remember where, I think i thought it was something it wasn't (i don't know why i did it - I never usually fill in anything on the internet that i've not searched for myself and known what it is) with my details (Name, dob, - no bank details or passwords though of course)

Recently I've been receiving emails from random places and then today i was called by a number which said it was a NY - USA number +1 (718) 822 9084 from a man called Adam. He reminded me i'd entered a competition to win an iPhone 5 and he knew my name, DOB, email address and Post code. I didn't say "oh yes that's me" and he didn't ask for any further details from me other than "do i read any news papers, am i a nurse, do i wear contacts, do i want this and that?" And I said no to everything. Then he said to keep a look out in my email to see if i had won the iPhone over the next few weeks.

I asked for their details and he said the company was called "Survey UMA" and that he was calling from Egypt. He said the call wasn't costing me anything. The website is www[dot]pickyourapple[dot]com which seems to collect details to pass onto third parties for marketing purposes.

It didn't seem otherwise malicious and he wasn't pushy but i know that this isn't any reason to suppose good intent.

Does anyone know whether or not this is a scam of some sorts (or whether it's just marketing), I can't seem to find any info on it online O_o
And also, how do i get out of having my details passed onto 3rd parties, or is it too late and i just need to change my email address?

Cheers,

Emma
