Parking Eye Advice Please

Hi Can anyone help??
My son stopped at a hotel car park. went in to ask if any rooms. no rooms available but stayed in car park to phone other hotels. friend sat in car whole of the time. he stood, outside car and phoned other hotels. car was iin car park for 33 minutes in total.

this was last week.
today he got a parking charge notice from parking eye for £100.

he feels he should pay it(he is 18 and does not want any trouble though can obviously not afford to pay it)
I feel that as he was a potential customer initially to the hotel, then he was next to the car /in the car he should not pay it. the £100 is completely disproportionate to how much he would have paid if actually staying and Parkin gin the hotel overnight.

I have tried googling what to do but some say ignore, some say appeal!
help please!!

No, he should not pay. Read any thread.

How should he deal with it.

    1. Wait for a notice to keeper to come through the post.

    2. Send a soft appeal as per stroma's template, to get the POPLA code.

    3. Come back here then to get our help for a POPLA appeal (assuming it was in England, of course) DO NOT SEND IN YOUR OWN POPLA APPEAL WITHOUT HELP FROM HERE OR YOU WILL LOSE.

In the meantime, get your lad to read the sticky POPLA APPEALS on this forum, get him to read up on POPLA and an evening reading this forum.

What exactly did the notice say on entry to the car park? If it is too far away, don't worry, but if it is relatively near, it would help.

    Certainly don't pay it!

First, could you try to contact the hotel, explain the circumstances and ask them to cancel it? Worth a try as this will quickly end it. Do a strong complaint, polite but strong and firm.

Otherwise you need to appeal it. There is a 'two stage' appeal. A brief soft one to PE, which they will reject. This must be written carefully and do not admit you were the driver. PE will reject this and give you what is a POPLA code which one uses to the independent POPLA. This appeal must be done right and you must ask for advice/guidance from the more knowledgable members here.
Here is a link to Stroma's soft appeal to a PPC. See post #10 for the example. Might need to tweek it everso slightly to fit your circumstance.

Plenty on this site about parking eye, but his first approach should be to the hotel to get them to contact PE and cancel it.

Don't forget too most hotels are on trip advisor. Negative reviews are never welcome.

GD - I don't think PE do Notices to Drivers (NtD) - OP, this means ticket on the windscreen, so I think the OP probably needs to start straight away now at your bullet point 2.

OP - can you confirm what you've received. Also in the letter is there any mention of the word 'creditor', if so, precisely tell us what it says please.

Tell your son not to worry, you're both in good hands here.

Just a quick update on this parking eye penalty notice.

I contacted the hotel where my son was parked, as you suggested. The manager of the hotel was very helpful and was happy to arrange for the parking notice to be cancelled.
I would not have thought to do this without your advice.

May I take this opportunity to Thankyou all for your swift and very helpful replies. It was very worrying for my young son to receive this notice and without your advice he would have been likely to pay the fine or not pay it and worry about it!!
    Best wishes to you all!

Good news, but have you had it confirmed in writing from either or both hotel/PE. If not, make sure you don't become complacent on it as a result of the relief of the 'cancellation'. It might come back to bite you. Keep an eye (pun unintentional) on it!

You should still give them a snotty review on Trip Advisor. They may have sorted it out, but they are culpable for it happening in the first place. Every company that allows Parking Eye to infest its car parks needs to be kicked in the gonads as publicly as possible.
