So they're trying to help you out and you're still moaning? :D

Perhaps they shouldn't have given you the information you asked for, but in this instance, don't you think it's better that they have? What did you want to happen? That they ignore you? If you expected them to refuse your request for information, why did you respond to their message with his name and address?

If they'd told you nothing, could we have expected a thread saying 'Council won't let me help my dad because of data protection' complaining that they're being awkward?

  • Why did YOU give out your Dad's details?

Would you guys be happy having £1000 bailif fees for 4p owed lol. I gave the council his name and address you can find this on an electoral role if you have any savvy at all! Why can they give account details to me yet i call talktalk and i cant pay our house phone bill as its in my husbands name? I think your missing the point. I was suprised they told me so much info and didnt say theyd look into it and get back to my father. If someone asked anything about my council payments etc I'd not be happy if they handed it out so easily but thats me i guess

How can I find out YOUR Dad's name address on the electoral roll? I haven't got a clue who you are. They were trying to help you.

Well if you don't like what they've done I'm certain they will have a documented complaints procedure, and if that doesn't satisfy you then you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, but it's pretty clear that whining on here isn't going to get much of a sympathetic response for you.

No doubt if they'd refused to help you you'd be on here complaining about how ridiculous the data protection act was and they were preventing you helping your vulnerable dad.

Maby they accepted a relaxed data check because of the facebook post about your father.

But you didn't just give them the name and address. You also gave details of the specific situation regarding underpayment and baliffs. Presumably the council considered this sufficient to prove you had a valid interest in the matter.
