I think we've had half a story.
Diva - if you want proper, considered opinions then you need to give us the full story. You don't need to name names or dates or anything like that.0 -
Lol i have no need to lie what i have stated is the truth. My husbands car was impounded cause the police stopped him and said he did not have insurance on the car to work all over we had standard car insurance, which states that it can only be used for social and domestic purposes hence WE DID NOT HAVE CORRECT INSURANCE. Hope that is clear and once again thank you all for your input and suspicions lol honestly!!!:happylove0

Insurers give the following options on the comparison sites and their own.
1. SDP only
2. SDP and commuting to one place of business
3. SDP and business travel
Police stopped him cause we only had option 1 of the above when we should have had option 3.:happylove0 -

But how did they know he was on business ?0 -
I think it's more likely that you had option 2 to be honest as that is the default, but it only covers travel to and from one's normal place of work, it doesn't cover zooming around all over the country.
I guess the police either stopped your hubby for some reason unrelated to insurance and only then discovered the insurance problem, or they realised that his car was a long way from its home address, during working hours, and became curious/suspicious about the insurance situation.
The next level above option 2 (option 3 as mentioned above) wouldn't cover him either, because it normally covers SDP and use by the policyholder in connection with his own business. Using your own car on your employer's business is yet another level (and price hike) again - option 4 if you will!
Unless of course it is his own business. I've always found that, contrary to popular belief, insuring my cars for use in my (self-employed) business costs very little more than the usual SDP/commuting - although I'm not in a line of business that requires a lot of driving.Je suis Charlie.0 -

The police had a check point where they were pulling random cars in and my OH happened to be one of them its not a big deal for us as we did not have the right insurance so paid the price for that so now we know for next time. Im not looking to fight and lie to get money back as we were in the wrong and im certainly not going to lie to the police about anything. I came on here just to ask if we could sell his car after it was impounded as I didn't really understand the wording 100% on the paperwork and we have never had to deal with the police ever. So we have now corrected the insurance so he is covered and we do not have this problem again.
However I would like to thank you all once again for your advice and thoughts on this matter.:A:happylove0 -
How would they know he had SDP only? Is that on the database? But how did they know he was on business ?
If you are happy then that's fine, but if people on here (who generally know their stuff) think it is all a little odd, it might be worth spending a few minutes to establish if you can get your money back.Rasberry_Diva wrote: »The police had a check point where they were pulling random cars in and my OH happened to be one of them its not a big deal for us as we did not have the right insurance so paid the price for that so now we know for next time.0 -

I can honestly say i don't know how they know it probably was on a database cause my OH doesn't carry his insurance papers around with him and all paperwork the police gave him on that day is marked as incorrect insurance.
I know people on here know their stuff which is why i posted on
here
but honestly i don't know how the police do their searches
and he got fined and car impounded for having the wrong insurance on his car. I'm not going to argue with it tbh as we honestly only had basic car insurance on the car when we should have had insurance to allow him to use the car to travel to multiple destinations for work. But fines are paid we have car back and now the correct insurance on his new car so this does not happen again and lesson learnt. :happylove0
