Credit Check Required?

Currently on Orange (2 handsets- wife and I). Have been with them for years.
Now both due upgrades and thinking about one of these 12 month free contract cashback deals which will involve a new contract with a new mobile company.
Usually give in notice to Orange and negotiate a better deal but looking for something even better this time round.
Problem is, I had serious financial difficulties last year- and currently wouldn't get past the credit check (although never had problems with the Orange account).
So- two questions:
Any companies out there who'd let me join on a monthly tariff without passing a credit check?
If I asked Carphone Warehouse about upgrade offers but stayed with Orange, would they do a credit check on me, or as far as they're concerned would they be happy that I'm a reliable Orange customer?

You will always have to have a credit check done to take out a new contract. Your only option is to upgrade, as they don't need to do a credit check to do this.

I think you will get a better deal from Orange direct than Carphone Warehouse - as Orange can change deals around, where cpw usually just have standard ones.
