Is there some way you could make it physically more difficult for them to do this? If they are throwing their butts over the fence, I'm guessing it must be fairly low? Could you put in a higher fence or trellis, or plant something that will grow up quite quickly, that makes it more difficult to do it? If they are doing it out of pure laziness, if you can make it more difficult to throw the butts into your garden rather than in their own, that might be enough.

Yes, sorry, I'd missed that bit! Makes it sound pretty deliberate then. I think I'd still go for a higher barrier with plants if I could manage it though.

A few years ago we lived next door to a guy that overliked his drink and got that plastered that he could not be a-rsed to go upstairs for a pee and used to go in his back garden..
    Dirty scumbag.

    Whats so wrong with this?

I do it occasionally if I am having a party.

I've had fag ends thrown over by my neighbours. They had a party once with a buffet outside, next morning there was all sorts of food, fag ends, wrappers, cans etc thrown into my garden. I picked them all up and left them on top of the buffet table. Hasn't happened since.

Fag ends were preferable to the endless stream of rabbit poo I had coming under the fence at one point tho!!

I'd pick them up in a plastic bag and throw them back over the fence . If they do happen to speak to you about it you can say it's their litter being returned . They might just get the hint and stop without saying anything .

I hope you get his sorted OP. I don't understand why so many smokers think that their cigarette butts aren't litter? I get so frustrated seeing people throw their still smoking butts on the floor- what do they think happens to them??

I live in a flat and the neighbour 2 floors above me just loves to smoke whilst hanging out of their window and throw the lit butts on the floor below, which land nicely right in front of my french door- we have to keep our windows closed because the smoke gets in and it stinks! Again, what do they think happens to these? The magic cigarette fairies don't come in the middle of the night to clean them up! I may borrow the idea of buying them an ashtray as a hint and see what happens! :p

    I always wonder this too.

I was stopped at a red light the other day and a guy in front chucked one out of the window. I felt like going over, dropping in back in his car, and saying 'This is yours, looked like you dropped it by accident.'

Some woman left a can of Coke on my window cill once; she was half way down the lane before I caught up with her and dumped it in her bag - shame it wasn't quite empty. :D

OP, wishing you well in sorting this out, and to every one else suffering thoughtless/malicious neighbours and littering.

My MIL smokes and trots out to the garden to do it, when she has been on her own with the children they have been insensed by her throwing the buts on the ground - pffft, cigarette ends are horrible. The thought of them coming sailing over the fence still lit doesn't bear thinking about.

When our neighbours used to like to 'party down' constantly, they'd sit in their back garden drinking heavily and smoking heavily. We'd awaken the next morning to find they'd thrown their fag ends and half-empty bottles of cheap beer and wine into our garden. Of course we threw them back and it went everywhere :T

As they were too lazy to put their own rubbish in their own bin a whole six extra steps from our garden away, they were obviously too lazy to clean this up as well. The bottles were still there two weeks later, as was the contents which had liberally sprayed their garden. It smelt like a tramp's armpit till it rained!
