Schools no longer allowed to authorise holidays

I have a thought - will schools still be taking kids out for "educational" trips and skiing trips, or will that have to stop?0

Last August we went to the Norfolk Broads, etc. and we paid roughly £60 per night B&B for a family of 4 - mostly on Great Yarmouth sea front but also on the broads itself. We paid more on the Saturday night, but that was a luxury that we treated ourselves to for my husband's birthday. If the Saturday prices had been out of our budget then we'd have avoided being on holiday on a Saturday.
This year's august holiday will be spent mostly in premier inn at £25 per night. The Saturday night cost £35 though.
If you keep an eye out for travelodge and premier inn sales you can get great seaside locations at bargain prices.52% tight0 -

My son's high school has 'activity week' at the end of July for the last week of school. All of the trips abroad and the theme parks, etc. happen during that week. If the kids weren't going abroad they would be taking part in other activities, some of which are free.
The school sent a letter out saying that they would no longer authorise any holiday requests, but I don't know if they would authorise a request during activity week. Maybe they wouldn't, but if a parent was looking at taking them out during term time then at least they would know that during activity week they wouldn't be missing any formal lessons.
There was a comment earlier saying that now would be the time to take kids out as they are winding down ... there are more than three weeks of schooling left! Nobody's winding down yet, surely?52% tight0 -

I am not talking about cannot afford to go aboard in the schools holidays but cannot afford even the cheapest UK caravan break.
The cheapest UK caravan break is probably with the Sun newspaper, or the daily mail's similar scheme. There are school holiday dates available.
Even Butlins in the summer holidays only cost me around £100.52% tight0 -

They're certainly not at my DD's school, they're starting their yr8 work, anyone taking their children out over the next two weeks will be seriously putting their child at a disadvantage for the beginning of next term.
We have activity week the last week of term too, it was looking for a while like OH's rota for next year (he has set holidays he cannot change) gave the first three weeks of July off, in which case I would have considered taking DD out of school for that week, otherwise she would not have had a holiday with both parents for four years, the last two years and this year she has only been away with me/brothers/nan. But happy days, he has three weeks off in August next year :jAccept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
booking.com is a wonderful website...do the legwork and don't book packages!

Definitely.
I'm reading about people saving £1000's by not going in school holidays, I don't even spend enough to save £1000's by booking independently, and believe me, we have seriously nice holidays.
Package holidays seem to be the biggest rip off ever.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I just had a quick look and found a 4 berth boat holiday in the Norfolk Broads for under £600 in mid August.
We can't afford expensive holidays, so we don't take them. When the children are a bit older I expect we'll go camping. Never mind the world, there's a whole country out there that needs exploring. The UK has some fantastic places to visit that will light up any child's face without costing a fortune.0 -
