Are you a dog lover?
Well be aware that your hard earned money is supporting a country that is prepared to allow this sort of animal cruelty to continue!

The information came from a good friend who was prepared to adopt a dog in Spain and take it back home to Italy

Whilst this is one of the worse cases, cruelty to animals in Spain (and Eastern Europe) is rife."The condemned Galgos.
Without a massive international onslaught the Spanish Greyhounds (known as "Galgos"), are condemned. Condemned to suffer and to die in a deafening media silence.
For just 2, maybe 3 years of their short lives those gentle Greyhounds from across the ocean only know a miserable life, with no advantages, before experiencing the most violent and unimaginable death?
In Spain, Galgueros (hunter with Galgos) do not use guns, they use their Hounds. But those hunters show no mercy to their faithful companions. The Galgos are treated as hunting tools, shut in a shed most of the time, ignored except for the hunt.
Already used to maltreatment by the age of 12 months, deprived of food and care, their owners do not hesitate to always inflict more atrocious suffering. In spring hunting season ends, The massacre and abandonment of Galgos reaches its height when the galguero, devoid of all feeling, carries out the final atrocity. The most traditional method remains, to this day, hanging by a method known as "the pianist". The Galgo hangs, its feet just touching the ground, causing it extreme agony for several days. Then, exhausted and suffocated, it collapses, "hanging himself" freeing the Galgueros of any kind of guilt. Whilst out for a walk in the forests of Spain, it is not unusual to make the macabre discovery of one of these unwanted Galgo hanging from a tree.
In many regions of Spain, the slow agony of the Galgos guards the tradition of this taste of men "playing with death" and, unhappily, it is difficult to eradicate some of these rituals, even the most unbelievably cruel.
Galgos are also very often stolen in the shelters by the Gypsies, they usually use them as bait in dogs fight, the are also using them for their hunting needs, they are very cruel and heartless...

The 2012 annual Stray Dogs Survey released today by Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, reveals a shocking 118,932 stray and abandoned dogs were picked up by Local Authorities across the UK over the last 12 months
http://www.dogstrust.org.uk/az/s/straydogsurvey/
20 dogs are put to sleep somewhere in the UK each day, nearly one dog an hour
and
A combination of factors has led to this increase such as a high number of unwanted bull breeds, the economic climate meaning some people can no longer afford to have a dog, and a worrying increase in owners 'disposing' of their dogs when they no longer want them.

So, who's holidaying in the UK this year? Makes you glad to be living here, doesn't it!I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.0 -
Judging by your picture of a cartoon dog crying it seems all we need to do to stop the cruelty is incarcerate Cruella DeVille.0

Bullfighting never stopped that many of us going to Spain."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

So the "info" is second hand from a friend?
Well, I enjoyed my holiday in Spain, and I may go back again!just passing through.... Nothing to see....0 -
The Spanish have their "culture" we have ours. We hunt foxes,we murder pensioners in UK hospitals,we allow people to wallow in filth,we harbour terrorists,we breed single mothers, smack heads and criminals and give them brand new homes for free... I'd rather live on the plains of Andalucia than in inner city Britain. I just earn a living here.
The annual Goat throwing competition is particularly curious though now officially banned

If you have ever been in a real (not tourist) supermarket/butchers in Spain you will know that they have a closer relationship with animals than we do !
As an aside.. i wouldnt holiday in the Spanish Costas unless i got a very good deal on a villa in the hills. It has become too synonymous with Brit enclaves, pot bellies, football shirts, beer, pictures of your dinner and high rise hell. Now the interior of spain..well thats a different world worth exploring..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -

Your argument might hold a bit more water if it read " 20 dogs are hung or strangled somewhere in the UK each day"Bullfighting never stopped that many of us going to Spain.0 -

Hate to burst your bubble, Spain has a higher % of the population suffering social deprivation than here, they have terrorist (never heard of Eta?), drug addicts, criminals, single mothers, people living on the streets, huge unemployment and poverty, real life in Spain is a far cry from the romance of the idyll of life on the Andalucian plains.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
You added the word "humanely". However, as far as I am concerned, In My Humble Opinion, KILLING any animal is wrong: When someone has taken responsibility for a creature, then abandoned it, the owner should be put to sleep and not the animal
And I am not sure that I would use a humane method for them....I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.0 -
Yes I will still go to Spain to do what I enjoy. If I oh went to countries where I agreed with everything they did I would never go anywhereNeeding to lose weight start date 26 December 2011 current loss 60 pound Down. Lots more to go to get into my size 6 jeans0

Indeed..i have family living in Spain...howver they dont promote single motherdom in the way we do. Its the Instituto de mujeres for them..not the benefit office for grants, bennys and a free house..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry).
