BT reneging on 7 day cancellation deal

I had my phone line re-connected through BT last Friday having moving back into a property Id rented out and specifically asked AND got him to repeat if I could cancel my line rent to them if I wanted to take my broadband and line rental with another company. They said yes, cancel within 7 days no problem otherwise I'd have to give 14 days notice and be charged for the whole year, fine I said.
I then signed up with Virgin/sky who said I could have my line rental paid through them with the package I was taking out. So this morning I called BT to inform them but they now say there is no such 7 day cancellation and Id have to continue paying them or if I cancel pay for the whole year and that I should have cancelled before the line when active basically three hours.
They said they would send me the tape of my original coversation but it would take 5 days - outside my 7 day 'deal' and I don't hold much hold as BT are very slippery to say the least.
Anyone had this dilema and do I have a leg to stand on.
My 7 days runs out Friday 1st June
Thank you in advance

Simple, if they listen to the call and find you were told that you had 7 days then you WILL be allowed out of it even if the 7 days are past.
If the call doesnt have that 7 days on it then you are stuck in the contract. Simple as that. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 20 -
Thank you for your reply. In that case I have nothing to worry about. Just hoping they do send it.0
