Paying for a meter only??

Hi all,

I'm new to this so please bear with me. I'm just wondering if anyone else is being charged by N Power just for having a gas meter (capped) as part of there new "transparent" tariffs?? I don't have gas, which they know, but I'm now being charged £20 a month just for the privilege of having a meter half hanging off a wall!!
Although they did write to me back in March it wasn't obvious that the daily standing charge was just for the meter - do I have a leg to stand on to try and reclaim these costs? Any ideas gratefully received x

  • Can you not just tell them to remove there meter from your property?
  • Thanks Dan, I have now asked but still going to incur charges up to the removal (whenever that will be).
  • If your not happy that things where not too clear or what ever the reason you could take your case up with there ceo. Do a google search for the words "ceo email" the website top of the list has npowers ceo email address.

  • whats the reason the thing is still there anyway if its been capped off what was the point on it been left there
  • They aren't charging to remove it and up until now had refused to remove it as there was "no point"......sigh....

If they are not charging for removal, you have done well, they usually do, so be happy !

  • I would email the ceo then if it was me. I would argue its there fault if you have given them opportunity to remove the meter. If they ask you how you would like this resolved double check they are removing the meter for free and a refund of the standing charges.

Utter nonsense. There is absolute no entitlement to free removal or refund of standing charges. If the supplier offers to force other customers to pay for it rather than the OP then that is their decision - but you have absolutely no right to have it done gratis. (Indeed it is deeply unfair.)
