Paying for a meter only??
Comments

Its been published well, and Im not on a standard tariff.Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

OP, you say you dont have gas, but you have a gas supply direct to the meter, available to you at a turn of the control valve. What you mean is , I dont use gas. There are charges around the £70 mark for removal of the meter, and the same sort of charges to replace it. I am surprised that you dont want to use the cheapest and most convenient form of central heating. all electric propertys would dearly love a gas supply
I agree , £20 a month is ridiculous. Ebico offer a no standing charge tariff I believe0 -
Utter nonsense. There is absolute no entitlement to free removal or refund of standing charges. If the supplier offers to force other customers to pay for it rather than the OP then that is their decision - but you have absolutely no right to have it done gratis. (Indeed it is deeply unfair.)
Its not utter nonsense if the op has given them ample opportunity to remove the meter even if they did intend to charge first time around. However it would be utter nonsense if as the above user mentions the gas valve is switched off.
You can not turn the gas valve off and expect to pay no standing charge for the equipment.
However I took the OP's post of face value.0 -
Have you ever had / used a gas supply there or was it capped before you moved in?
If you haven't used any gas there ever there is an argument that you have no "deemed contract" and therefore cannot be liable for standing charges. The fact a supplier may incur costs for having their meter there is in my opinion their problem and not yours, it was they who previously chose to cap it rather than remove it and you have never entered into any contract with them if you have neither expressly done so, or been deemed to have done so by taking a gas supply.0
