Mounting the TV on the wall (above fire??)

Something like this, means you can park the tv flat against the wall and bring it out to watch.0 -

It's a pet hate of mine, seeing tellies above a fireplace. They're too high up there and it makes the goggle box the centrepiece of the room.
Our TV (a titchy 42") sits level with my eyes while I'm sitting on the sofa and is housed on a simple IKEA stand (OPPLI, from memory) with wheels. If I want to re-arrange the furniture in the room it's easy. It wouldn't be if the telly was fixed to the wall."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
Above fire TVs can be bad news:
a) they are chavtastic
b)heat rises and !!!!!!s up the telly
c)neck strain as not ideal hieght
d) be careful as the fixings may well penetrate into the flue space and cause other issues..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
Fireplaces used to be the focal point of the room...these days (rightly or wrongly) the focal point is the telly...so, personally, I'd look at getting rid of the fireplace and putting the tv in its place. It would be far easier to set up the surround sound that way, than trying to make it work for a corner setup.
Whilst I've not seen people with their main TV elsewhere, I *have* seen people with their fireplace in another room - typically the dining room...then you get to have the fire on when you're eating (nice for xmas dinner etc) and can also just sit in there and read a book or the paper with the fire on...makes it a more usable space.
I think it was Joey Tribbiani who said
"You don't have a TV? What's all your furniture pointed at?"

I didn't realise how chavvy I am! Our very large 55" TV is above our fireplace although there is no fire there and hasn't been since we moved in. The only other place to put the TV would be on the wall opposite the conservatory which would be irritating as it would be above the sofa!
It works fine for us. I was hoping to get a wood burning stove put in but obviously that isn't an option now as OH had his TV put up the day after we moved in...“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

TBH, i took the advice on board & am grateful for it - especially the pointers about neck pain & eye line.Philippa36 wrote: »I didn't realise how chavvy I am! The chav tags i took with a pot of salt though. Comments on taste are just opinion. I don't like French cars, but plenty of people do. I don't like girls, especially young girls (as IMO that's just wrong!) wearing those skin tight leggings where you can see their underwear through them & you wonder what on earth they were thinking. Plenty of people like that look. Some don't like TVs on the wall, i quite like it. I don't prefer it to a stand, i don't prefer a stand to wall mount. It's just an enquiry.0 -

classy
(this message is too short so just adding this at the bottom to meet the word limit, I also believe there is nothing else to be said in regards to the quote)0 -
Not sure whether you're in agreement with me or disapproving of my view.
Either way, if i had a daughter, i most certainly wouldn't be letting them out the house dressed like that. I think it looks terrible & is bad enough on adults, never mind kids. But that's a whole other off topic debate.0
