Mounting the TV on the wall (above fire??)

Firstly i know there's no substitute for actually being in a room in person & having a look, however...

Had a look at a house on rightmove listed under 2 EAs & there's 2 sets of photos.
They have their TV tucked in a corner in the living room. Looks like a smallish TV. I personally would like quite a large TV, but i can't see from the photos (& they're taken from both angles so you can get a reasonable scope of the room) where else the TV would go, other than on the wall (which i like the idea of).

Problem is, the only spot on the wall that i can see that'd be suitable for viewing is right above the fireplace.

Now i feel like i'm asking what should be an obvious question here, but can this ever be done?

I'd imagine not due to it being above the FIREplace. Other than that, it just looks like a pokey place in the corner being the only spot for a TV.

Not a good idea if it is an open fire - hot cinders may melt/damage the plastic surround of the TV.

Yeah this is what i was thinking.

The other option would be to simply not use the fire i guess & just use it for show. I just wondered if there were workarounds to this.

    The room in question:

Unless, thinking about it, you go on the same wall as the fire but tuck the TV in the far right corner by the window? Obviously heat rises, so i don't know if this would be too hot with it being up there, even though it'd be at the edge of the wall rather than above the fire.

When we select our house, i'd be wanting to get in a TV as big as possible. IDEALLY i'd be wanting a 50"/55" flatscreen LED Smart TV. This may not be possible (obviously) but i'd like as close to that as possible - something in the 40"-50" bracket perhaps.

We wouldn't be basing our house buying decision purely on a TV location either, just in case that one was going to get mentioned :D

With it that high up where the mirror currently is, you'll soon develop neck strain from watching the TV!

I'd stick it above the fire, not as high as the mirror though. That's where ours is. We don't bother using the fire.

Be careful if it's a gas fire though that no pipes in the chimney breast are hit when drilling!

    I agree with Myser.

The centre of a TV should be at about eye level or slightly below when sitting down in the normal viewing position.

TVs mounted above fireplaces are the ultimate in chavvy. I suspect brighthouse offer an installation service for it (at 95p per month for eight years).

Block up the fireplace and put the TV there. In the past year I haven't actually used my fireplace - if it was the only place it could go, I'd have no qualms in getting rid of it.

Ok so TV at eye level. Thanks.

As for TV in the other room, does anyone actually have their main TV in any room other than the living room? I've never seen it before. I'm sure someone somewhere must have done it, but i'd not be doing it. None of my relatives have done it, nor any of my friends, the same for my partner too.

Just a bit annoying with the photos there - it looks like there's only really room for a small TV which is quite poor. As said, i'd be wanting at least 40". We have a 32" i think it is at home which is ok. I'd much prefer something bigger though.

how much space to the left / right of the fireplace?

Could you use a angled wall mounted tv arm to keep it at a decent height but utilise the full space of a corner (ie the wall to the left and right of a corner.

    something like this

You can mount the arm more on the fireplace wall to give more proportion on that wall than the smaller wall with the doorway
