I can get the door open about 5cm at the right side and the open side of it is facing in to the cupboard, so visibility is very, very limited. Probably just enough room to get my hand in, but the fact that I've had a warning about elec shock from this box a little higher up this thread doesn't fill me with great amounts of confidence to go sticking my hand in to a cupboard that I can't see!
If I turn the power off to stop the elec shock risk, the alarm will go off, but is this my only way of fixing it? Do I just need to be pretty speedy about doing it?
There's no lagging on the water tank, so no scope to squidge it in to make extra room.
We will, in the not too distant future be changing the system for a combi boiler anyway so HW tank will be going then, but wanted to change the bathroom first and need to turn power off for parts of that job.

Can you post a photo of where the alarm panel is sited?

How accessible is the siren? Do you have a ladder long enough to reach it?

I have an Accenta and from memory you loosen the screws then can slide the cover down and off so don't need much room. As mentioned above, it triggers the tamper alarm but putting the usual code in mutes it. The fault you describe is what it does usually when the battery is shot.

The mains goes directly into the transformer terminals so are not easy to touch accidentally. The rest of it is all 12 volts and safe to touch.

Battery can be either a 1.2ah or 2.3ah 12 volt. either less than £10 from Toolstation for a decent one if there is a branch near you or they do free delivery on orders of £10+ so add something cheap & useful to the basket..

You can check which one you need by comparing the dimensions with the one already in there. Just two pull off /push on terminals to connect, making sure you get the red on + and black on -, lid back on, reset by entering code. Job done.
