Hi, i have found myself in a similar situation, i found an old share in the co-op that my grand mother took out in 1938, 70 years ago. I was wondering if this share would be worth anything today? can anyone help me,0

I have a old fileserver with DFS enabled , an example of a share link would be \\server1\share.
I did a manual delete of DFS; which consists of editing 2 registry items, they are OptionalNames and AlternativeComputerNames. I erased the serve name from the key, in this example, it would be server1.
Then I went into DFS mangement and delete the root of server1.0 -
the Capital Gains Tax Handbook 2 vols 1982 to date will tell you everything that has happened with a share eg share division, company dissolved, notional value, taken private etc. We have it at Chelmsford Library where I work you should find it in most major city libraries.
I dont want to look up such a long list of shares but will willingly look at any you have difficulty with if you pm me. If the share is still current you obviously will then need to contact the registrar to discover holdings.0 -
Hi
I really hope someone can help me as I am getting absolutely no where with Santander and I am getting rather frustrated
My mum bought me a 1p share with Abbey National in 1989. The certificate states I am a member. I was only 9 at the time of her buying this so it was in her name but stated she was a trustee for me (and it also names me on the certificate).
It states an account number which I have provided to Santander and Equiniti but it seems they cant find me and do not seem that bothered by it.
Ok this share was worth a penny and realistically its probably less worth than that now but......what happens if it isnt??? My mum bought it for me so I kinda do have a right to know.
Can anyone please please suggest / help / advise what I can do from here??
Many thanks

A quick google suggests you should have received one Santander share for each AN share you owned. I assume that's the shares listed on the Spanish exchange, as the London listing came later. I'm assuming AN didn't split the shares etc.
This means your Santander share is worth the princely sum of EUR4.68.

I'm not sure what you actually have - Abbey National were nominally 10p shares (not 1p) and were sold for £1.30 when originally issued
They are now (as Santander shares) worth roughly £3.75 each
Equiniti are the registrars and are the ones that ought to be able to help
Your Mum (presumably) had the free Abbey shares in 1989 - if these were subsequently sold then maybe the one that was noted as yours went at the same time?0 -

Thank you both for your replies.
When my mum purchased the share on 15/03/1989 it cost her approximately £50.00 (back then that was a lot I spose) she completely forgot about it until she came across the certificate in August 2011 and she gave it to me. We stayed at the home it was registered to for a further 10 years but never advised them of a change of address.
I contacted Santander and Equiniti last August and still as yet have not got anywhere.
I literally have a piece of paper that was issued by Abbey National Building Society, with the London Branch / Office address.
It shows my mums names as trustee for myself.
It states:
This is to certify that the person named above is a member of the Abbey National Building Society and holds a share to the value of one penny in the account with the number set out above.
Pursuant to the rules of the Society, the Board has determined that the share represented by this certificate must not be withdrawn on or before 30th April 1989.
The share represented by this certificate may only be withdrawn against representation of this certificate at the branch set out above.
Realistically is it worth nothing and what can I do to find out?
Thanks x0 -
That does not look like any share certificate I ever seen, emloulou. I would think that it is just a share account. There may still be £50 in that account. Few building society have them, Ecology Building society is one of them.
Someone asked similar question about it few years ago. Link to old thread. Does not look good I am afraid.
Cheers

Thanks Joe, I really appreciate the response and given me some new avenues to try.
Thing is it probably is worth nothing but thats not the point really, I have a right to know and they are so happy to fob people off all the time, maybe one day some poor soul will have millions written off because a bank has been taken over and their account has been lost and forgotten.
If I owed them money they would happily chase me for a million years
