Would you say anything to the builder ?

Ooh, pretty bad tiling that I personally couldn't live with. I'd definitely have to pull the so called tiler up about it & tell him I'm very unhappy about the poor quality of his work.that tiling is pants !Blimey.......
Looks a right mess to me !!
Has he actually matched the tile patterns or just slung them up any old how...
It would drive me nuts living with that job.
well i slightly disagree, i can see two probs there,
1st he has used 5mm spacers, wrong, those tiles should have had 3mm max.
2nd he hasn't set out the tiles properly before he's starting fixing them, which has caused the mess around the wc & the top of the door
also you need to use an electric wet tile cutter with those tiles but i bet he has either used a score & snap (very hard work with those tiles) or an electric grinder.
here's a 600mm x 300mm natural stone tile i had to cut for a cloak room to go around a window & to follow the stair case (& yes that is all one tile).
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Agree with southcoadtrgi. He hasn't set the tiles out correctly before belays them. He has just started with a full tile and not thought about how it finishes. He obviously doesn't own a wet cutter hence all the straight cuts.
He may be a builder but he certainly isn't a tiler. I'd want those 2 walls done again.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
The irony is that you can get a usable diamond wheel tile cutter for ~£50 from the likes of Homebase and Screwfix. It won't last all that long, but it'd be good enough for that job, and a few more, and the cost is peanuts.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

yes Leif 1st attempt (ty btw), that's why i use an electric wet cut you couldn't do it any other way, a 4" grinder (even with a tile blade in it) would cause too much vibration & the tile would have snapped every time
above: i paid £75 just for the blade, but yes I agree one of the cheaper ones would have made a world of differenceI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

Sorry southcoastrgi, I deleted the post, but I am impressed by that tile. I know from limited experience of tile cutting that it would not be easy.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

I'm impressed with southcoastgri's cut - just wish he'd rubbed the pencil line off first .. I thought he'd broken it at the narrow point at first... I generally do when I cut one so narrow, it tends to be the second or third attempt that works.
Yes, even a cheap cutter helps enormously. Mine was a £35 reduced price, and makes the world of difference.
OP. I certainly think you should speak to your fitter. He's done quite a lot of the work perfectly, and he might be seething at himself for doing it wrongly.0 -
The builder is coming round tomorrow to finish the last few bits and bobs, I'm going to let him finish those and give me the invoice before raising my concerns, I'm worried if I speak up before I get the invoice that 'extras' might creep in (to cover the cost of the remedial work)0

Update, the builder dropped the invoice round tonight, I invited him in and I aired my concerns about the job, he tried to pursuade me that was the way it's done, I was having none of it. He lives local and has recently refurbished his own house, I asked him if that was how he'd done his own bathroom, he invited me up to his house to look. So I went to his house and lo and behold its been done properly at his place (he tried to pursuade me otherwise of course). After "discussing" things for a while we agreed on a £200 discount on the job, at this point he accused me of being a scammer and that I'd planned to do this all along. It's a real shame as we used to be neighbours / friendly, we live in a small'ish village so no doubt my name will be mud now

Why not point him at this thread? And when you get the bad bits redone, send him a copy of the invoice. Then he can't think it was a scam.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0
