WTC & Clothing Grants.

Options
Sorry if this has been asked before i did look through some threads.

Has the law recently changed on claiming clothing grants while you are in reciept of WTC?

Last year i was claiming CTC/WTC and i was entitled to claim a clothing grant but not school dinners. This year on the form i notice it's only for parents in reciept of CTC and not WTC that can claim clothing grants.

Well if you are in receipt of WTC this shows that you're on a lowish income from employment... so I would have thought you should get this clothing grant. Which form says this?

Have you rang the Tax credits people?

Yes the rules have changed, free school meals and assistance with school clothing can be claimed if you are receiving any one of the following:

    Income Support OR

    Income-Based Job Seekers Allowance OR

Child Tax Credit, but NOT in receipt of Working Tax Credit and your income is less than £14,155 (as assessed by the Inland Revenue) OR

If you are an asylum seeker receiving support under part VI of the Immigration & Asylum Act 1999.

The form i picked up from a local council service point.

it says..you are only intitled to claim if you are not in reciept of WTC and your income needs to be less than £14,155. I take it they mean your income from CTC??

call me thick:o , but surely if your income is under 14,155 you would get wtc:confused:

if you only get ctc then your income is higher. to me people in receipt of wtc are on lower incomes than those just getting ctc, so i am  on these issues

Whilst I was self employed, OH claimed JSA we got only CTC and not WTC, as neither of us was employed working. With the low income it meant we were therefore was entitled to free school meals.

We were the fortunate ones and the situation only lasted 6 months.

So you can have income less than 14,155 and get just CTC, but not many I suppose.

You only get WTC if you work a minimum of 16 hours per week, so if you are working less than this you will get CTC but not WTC.

With reference to the op's question about clothing grants I believe that different councils operate in different ways, I know that in my area the uniform grants were abolished last year

It was at the discretion of local councils.

Nobody could get it here anyway - not even those on income support!

Seems it has just been stopped everywhere now.
