The garage scams continue.
All these frauds have one thing in commone - it's ATMs that are hit. And what do you need to have to get cash from an ATM? - a cloned card and valid PIN. Or of course a genuine card & genuine PIN.
Story here.
Once again because you seem to be hard of hearing (or understanding); There have been no (zero, that's zero) instances of chip and pin fraud at atm's. Banks can tell if the card has been chip read or mag strp read. As has been pointed out to you by numerous posters on numersous occasions; if the fraud is committed using the mag strip the liability falls back onto the bank again so customers are protected.
I'm not sure I can be any clearer - do you understand yet ?0 -

Umm, I think the point is rather had the PIN not been entered and captured, the opportunity to use the PIN at an ATM whether with or without a chip is nullified.
Whilst liability would in the instance described above fall back onto the bank, I for one, would rather the fraud not occurred in the first place rather than have the argument with the bank.
I've had this happen to me as a matter of fact, and the bank's response was that the PIN was used at the (mag stripe only) ATM, therefore only I could have performed the transaction. The card was C&P, and only after the threat of legal proceedings did the bank back down and refund the fraud.
Had no-one captured my PIN in the first place, they wouldn't have had to the opportunity to use it in an A&L cash machine in Liverpool.43580 -
The item on watchdog worried my parents so much they got chip and sig cards. They have no problem using them but I have noticed that shop assistants almost never check the signatures.0

Also, did anyone see "Tonight with trevor mcdonald" a few weeks pack, i thing it was the "Fraud Frenzy" story, they were showing REAL PEOPLE with CHIP AND PIN CARDS and they had money STOLEN from CLONED cards! The bank said it was the original card and there was no way it could have been, so how can they tell the difference??? They obviousley can't
Also, there was a bit on there about chip and pin and a professor from cambridge uni said the chips CAN be copied but they are not because there are many easier ways around it.We’ve had to remove your signature because your opinion differs from ours. For less than £60 fraudsters are able to make devices that can be attached to chip-and-PIN till keypads.
Using parts available on the Internet, these can capture both the information on the magnetic strips and the PIN used by the customer.
Miss Edward, 43, said: "The bank refused to accept I was a victim of a crime.
"They insisted that it was my debit card and my PIN. "It was as if I was lying. Yet we all know that this fraud is rife."

Brand New Chip & Signature Card received yesterday.
From Terms & Conditions and General Card Use Advice:
It is essential you tell us as soon as you can if you suspect or discover that someone else knows your PIN.
You and each additional card holder must not tell anyone your PIN (if you have one) but must keep it secure, even when entering it on a keypad to authorise a Transaction.
If a Card or Convenience Cheque is lost or stolen or a Card OR Pin is liable to misuse you must immediately telephone us on …………
OR from the leaflet with the New Chip & Signature MasterCard:
From time to time, you may receive communication from us that refers to using a PIN with your card, please disregard these references as it will not apply to your specially requested Chip & Signature Card.
Hint: Don’t be PINned down for Card Misuse!0 -
im laughing at the supermarket im having problems with my c+s cards with... they said "We are more than happy to accept your card, we apologise for all the mis-information and inconvenience you have experienced and we would like to assure you it won't happen again. However, When you do use your card on the self scan tills, you MUST ask for a MANGAGER to authorise your transaction. This does NOT apply for the normal checkouts."
Does this make any sense to anyone???
Why would I need to get authorisation from a manager on the self scan but not normal checkouts when it is the same staff members working on each of the tills. We’ve had to remove your signature because your opinion differs from ours. Trubster,
The other way of looking at it, is if anyone nicks your card, they´re going to get a limited amount of grief from a manager.0
