Espresso, I'm buying a new adaptor as at the mo the Ethernet cable is giving me wired connection only. When the wireless was working ( ) it was faster...........

Not possible! You originally asked how to diagnose your connectivity problems and have now decide to buy yourself a new adaptor!

Don't you get an Inventel wireless adapter with the livebox anyway. As expresso said, you need to remove all the wireless adapters, and use wired ethernet, and work from there to diagnose the issue. Buying another wireless adapter is just going to complicate things.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

Thanks for all advice. I followed all advice re connecting up with Ethernet cable. I can connect with a wired connection. I can cannect with Belkin for 2 mins before it crashes and it doesn't connect without Belkin so obviously Belkin IS the wireless connector & I shouldn't have let Orange technical support confues me!

Orange talked me through all configuration setting with Belkin & couldn't get it to work but Livebox is working. Their tests seemed to indicate PC working OK, so adaptor is problem.

I therefore bought a D-Link one and it won't install properly. Cue 1/2 afternoon on phone to D Link support. It installs 1st part after a fashion but when computer restarts, although it recognises new hardware, it does not prompt any action. Managed to get Wizard working with D Link help, but it keeps saying it can't find any better software match than what is on there (or something similar). Even although there is icon on desktop which shows location on c drive when you go to add/remove programmes it isn't there...... Can't solve it so they have suggested I take back & get replacement or there IS something wrong with PC........

    Going to scream now.......

then in the black screen type "ipconfig /all"

  • Cledor I fiddled about last night and found it myself in the programme files and deleted it all. Then tried to reinstall but the same thing happened. Am taking back tomorrow and getting a Netgear one. It WILL work (will get DS to install so he can cope with the stress!).

Espresso, PC was so wet with my tears it slipped from my grasp so is still in one piece...... but watch this space...... ;) .

Will report back...... I MUST get it fixed as just about to apply to AQA or similar so need reliable connection  .....

Just a thought - had to sort out this problem for someone else a while back, use system restore to a point when the adaptor was working and all was well.

Just one other thought - did you uninstall the software for the previous dongle first?
