Bank statement charges

Hi all,

I need the last tax years bank statements to do my tax return so sent a letter to Lloyds TSB requesting them. I received a reply from Lloyds stating that it would cost £150 for 9 months worth of statements! I tried sending them the template letter requesting charges etc under the Data protection Act with a £10 cheque as per another thread suggested on this forum to see if this would work. However, all I received was one page with about 3 lines of transactions on! Is there any other way around getting my statements without forking out what would now be £160?

Thanks!

    Well... no.

Why did you request charges? You don't want to request charges. What you wanted was to do a subject access request, which gives you every shred of information they hold on you. You've effectively wasted a tenner; you now need to send them another one to get the information you actually wanted.

Alternatively, use Internet banking and get them for free.

Unfortunately my account is now closed so don't have access to online banking any more. It wasn't just charges I requested, it said something along the lines of ..
I am writing to request a fully comprehensive list of all the transactions, default charges for direct debit, unauthorised overdrafts and standing orders I have paid over the last six years.

Please find enclosed a cheque for the maximum statutory charge of £10. If you are unable to provide this data, I will accept a copy of my statements going back six years; I understand that statements on their own are not covered by the Data Protection Act 1998, yet I’m not requesting the statements per se, but the charges, which I’m entitled to by law.

I had read on another thread that this would work but I think the banks have become wise to this. Oh well, guess I'm just going to have to bite the bullet!

The terms and conditions for personal accounts say it is £5 for duplicate statements regardless of how many pages.
And for Business Accounts it says it is £5 per sheet

What did you do with your original copies of statements sent?

Yes I did see that the charge was £5 per sheet so I'm assuming that must be per page and not per monthly statement. Total rip off.

I don't think I received the original copies as I vaguely remember going paperless. It was a while ago and I cant see how I would have lost a year's worth of statements :/

As has already been posted, it says "£5 for each request (any number of pages)"

Where did you see it is £5 per sheet?

    Don't forget the other T&C's:

"An administration charge may be made for excessive requests"

    and

"If we have to spend a significant amount time on a specific area, we may charge a fee. If this seems likely, we will agree it with you before you are committed."

So asking for 6 years of statements might be regarded as "excessive request" and/or "requiring a significant amount of time".

But I agree that £150 for 9 months of statements sounds excessive!

It's a business bank account not a personal one and it says £5 per sheet for copies of business statements as per the second link above

Well originally Gromitt, I sent a letter asking for April 2012 to Dec 2012 and they responded with the £150 fee so I tried the 6 year thing after this. I think I will have to give them a call and ask why they want such a ridiculous amount. They must know they've got me by the balls as I need these statements for my tax return so no getting out of it

Ah, I didn't know it's a business account. It also says "£3 if ordered at Branch" - so may be a call at a local Branch will save you loads of money? Might have to put your tin suit on so their sales tactics won't hit, but at least you should get your statements for 3 quid?
