Can I port my number from one 3 mobile SIM to another?

Hi,
In the past at the end of a contract I've always taken a new contract which has happened to be with a different provider, and I've requested a PAC code and ported my number.
However this time, my existing SIM is with 3 mobile, and the best new deal is also with 3 mobile.
I have searched the 3 site, and also googled, but can't seem to find out if I'll be able to take out the new SIM, and then port my number over?
Thanks.

I tried to do this with vodafone, but couldn't, but could turn my current number onto a PAYG and then after a month(Ithink) I was able to change it to my new contract with the same provider ie vodadone, meant I had two phone numbers for the month which worked fine for me. I have a similar question.
I have mobile internet with 3 using a dongle. It has a brilliant number that I can easily remember! I'm probably going to give up that service and would like to use this number as a mobile phone number.
I tried to ask 3 customer so-called service but gave up when I couldn't understand the response. Does anybody know whether it's possible? Thanks.0 -

No you can't, it would need to go to another network and then back. It is possible to port it out to a PAYG sim and then back a few weeks laters.====0 -
Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'll just need to get a PAYG SIM temporarily with another network then port back in. Does anyone have any idea how long I'd need to keep the PAYG SIM with the new network for, before I could port back to 3?
(I know I could ask 3 but their CS is hopeless so am pretty sure I'll get a better, quicker and more accurate reply from you guys!).

What you want is called a 'number migration' NOT a port (so no need for a PAC). It is up to the network to facilitate this, and like you I had a cracking dongle number and wanted this for my main mobile.
It took a while to get the explanation across to Level 1 Customer Services, before they passed it upward and the UK team did the business with no hassle.0 -

I did the same, moved from a PAYG SIM to a 30 day rolling contract SIM, both from Three. The Customer Service Team fouled up the move, left me with a temporary number for nearly a month
It needed a complaint to the Chief Exec's Office, who sorted it out and also gave me a refund for the month.
So yes they can do it.0
