you had a hard disk failure in the last machine .... new hard disk, open one flap, 2-4 screws, a macrium boot cd and disk image backup would have got that back to a fully working I5 machine with all data and programs installed in one hour, for a total cost of £40 (for the hard disk)

I know I wish I could do stuff like that.

I would still need a new lid which I looked at it today & it's cracked through to the screen & in flat out position, but I do understand what you mean about the Hard disc drive

Once I am sorted I will look for someone local

If you can undo a screw, you can

    It's probably the hinge.

Its higher than the hinge, it's the actual screen surround I think the hinge didn't work right & over time it put stress on the surround.

All personal preference, my preference for a new machine is

uninstall all the bloat that came with it, including antivirus, install avast free, malwarebytes free, windows firewall, ccleaner, search everything,

BIB - I learnt something new today :)

I have taken the picture of the cracked lid on my phone, have put the Sd card into the laptop & a box has come up saying:

    Memory Card (E)

    Images
    Video Clips

I obviously want Images when I click on it nothing happens. If I right click I get:

    Open
    Pin To Start
    Share With
    Scan
    Send To
    Cut
    Copy
    Create Short Cut
    Delete
    Re Name
    Properties

But nothing to download it to the computer under pictures
