Did you do it as soon as online check-in opened, or did you leave a few hours?

I was sat waiting for the on line check in to open, most seats were already booked but by the time I selected the seats close by they had gone. Nothing to do with slow Internet as I have BT infinity.

Surprised BA charge for booking seats long haul! Do they charge for meals & drinks too?

No no charge for meals or drinks. Booked the seats for the return on line in Orlando as soon as we arrived, cost just under £200 for 7 of us.

BA have had the option for some people to pay to book seats for a while now. When check-in opens it's free for all. Food and drink is still free.

For £25 a seat for a long haul flight, I wouldn't bother but then again I do get free seat reservations as I have a Silver card ;)

Surprising - the sort of thing you expect from the budget airlines. I've never paid to reserve seats on any long-haul flight, booked with Singapore recently - reserved seats for no charge. I'd have been quite shocked if there'd been a charge for it!

What are people's thoughts on doing this? 4 of us flying, 2 of which are children -9 and 6 years. I prebooked last year, but can't help thinking it's a con!

So you prebooked last year and I take it you sat in the seats you prebooked...why do you think it was a con?

The charge is totally optional and avoidable. It's just an extra way of raising money from people who think the cost is worth it.

Well, quite, just surprised BA charge it, what next, charging for food, drink, baggage... I thought they liked to differentiate themselves from the budget airlines.

Or to put it another way, BA to charge extra for baggage, sometimes.

I rarely fly with airlines where your can't pick seats at point of booking for free. But if I had to, I'd definitely pay for it. And I'd pay for extra legroom for a long-haul flight.

They only charge if you want to pick your seat prior to online check-in. I pick my seat free of charge every time I fly with as do most people I'm sure.
