HELP: Moving to Northamptonshire!!

Hello everyone,
Me & my family (OH +3) are planning to move out of London due to many factors. We think we have found a good house in Northampton but are not sure whether it is a better place than where we are currently living (Greenwich- South of River). The reasons we are mainly planning to move out are:
1. The Blackwall tunnel which can cause a chaos on most occasions
2. The level of crime going up in South London. (My car was burgled once)
3. The size of the house we are getting for almost a similar price
4. We can work from anywhere due to the nature of our work
5. People here are quite skeptic and reserved (in our views) - it took me 3 years to know the name of most of our neighbours here
6. The way people drive their cars here (my car which is normally parked on the street has been scratched at different places overnight)
We are fond of exploring places and have gone through most of SE England. Probably that is one reason we wish to move northwards. This will also be an investment for us as we will be letting our house in London. But i'd be happy to know what kind of community to expect, how the schools & people are, and how the driving is compared to SE London.
Thank you in advance if you do reply. If not, thanks for reading.
Thanks,
Terry

Lost this thread for sometime. We are moving to Corby.0

Corby.
Not the nicest of places. Just my opinion. You may want to consider Northampton itself - which has a few ok areas - e.g. kingsthorpe village, abington etc... or Milton Keynes is nearby - pricey in comparison, but you get what you pay for. Depends on whether your priorities are nice location
or nice house.0 -
My inlaws live in Corby and all I can say is DONT DO IT! It is cheap for a reason, my Hubby grew up there and would now not live there if you paid him.
My Mother and Sister in law want to move down to where we live but if they sell their houses up there they will be lucky to buy the smallest of flasts down here
Crime and anti-social behaviour are high in the area, my family are personally scared to go out alone after dark.

However, just outside of Corby there are some lovely little villages which are not THAT much more expensive (compared to London prices) - maybe think about moving to one of them?Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 492 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts0

Agree with the other posters, there are some lovely places in Northampton, but not Corby, chav city!Gone ... or have I?0

Avoid Corby...my ex husband came from there, (which is reason in itself to stay away!) grew up there etc and even in the early 90's it was dog rough. He was ruthlessly bullied at school, (mind you, it couldn't have happended to a nicer person!) the town was AWFUL and it was just manky. I think he lived in Fotheringhay which was one of the nicer bits!...can't remember, deleted much of the detail of my short personal horror film that was my first marriage!
Try the outlying villages though, they are lovely..unlike my ex husband! The only thing to do with good advice is to pass it on. It is never of any use to oneself. (Oscar Wilde);)0 -
>We are moving to Corby.<
OMG. Definitely not the place to go. Full of unemployed Scots.0 -
If you want to be shouted at, incoherently by drunken sweaties from 10am onwards, then Corby is the town for you.
Did anyone hear that absurd advert on the radio with Stephen Fry narrating, extolling the virtues of Corby compared to living in London? Evidentally it is quicker to get to work in central London by train compared with driving from South London!
The advert didn't explain why anyone would drive and also didn't mention the fact that Corby does not have a train station.
Any offence caused to Corby is entirely intentional.0 -
Hi,
I live in Northamptonshire and have to say that I think it has the most beautiful countryside and villages. I come from Birmingham and was wanting to get away from the crime and the youths and the smog and traffic. I have to say that I love it. My village is just off the M1 so it is easy to get around and get back to see relatives, the people are very friendly, (can be a little intimidating at first as everyone knows everyone).
I live in between Rugby and Northampton and there are some really pretty villages - but I have to agree with everyone else about Corby I'm afraid - definitely NO - out of the frying pan, into the fire springs to mind!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 607 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T
One day maybe I will be debt free0
