Sky automatic upgrade for going over data limit?

A friend of mine has had Sky broadband for many years with a cap of 2GB, but she's been using it a lot more than usual recently. She has already gone over the limit once a few months ago and is close to doing so again soon. A few years ago I used to be with Sky myself and I remember that it used to be the case (I think?) that if you went over your limit 2 months within 6 months then they automatically upgraded you to a higher cap and charged you more. Is this still the case?
I think she currently pays £5 a month which I don't think is even available anymore as they seem to only offer it for free with line rental being paid for (my friend's line rental is still with BT). So since her existing package effectively no longer exists, what happens if they automatically upgrade her? Presumably they can't switch her line rental without her permission? But would she be upgraded to unlimited and if so, how much would it be?
Any ideas? Much appreciated, thanks

We're on Plusnet ourselves, so I figured that's what I'd suggest if she's happy to change - was just trying to find out how much Sky's unlimited would be to avoid doing so (she's not big on change!)
What package are you on for £4.99 please? Do you mean you have your line rental with them too?
We're on £9.99 for unlimited (our line rental is with BT and can't be changed yet), so I thought this is what my friend could change to, but I can't find this on the Plusnet website, it seems it is now £12.49? Maybe I've misunderstood?
Edit: that's weird, the message I'm replying to here, seems to have dissappeared?! So now I just look like I'm talking to myself! Or can other people still see it?0 -
Sky Broadband unlimited is £12.50 / month.
You get a discount of £2.50 if you are a TV subscriber, and a further discount of £2.50 is you take Sky Talk and Line rental.
Sky Line rental is £14.50 / month although you can pay for 12 months up front for £119.40.
Mind you you might be able to get a discount. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Thanks very much
She has their TV package, but needs to leave her line rental with BT, so if I understand correctly, when she's goes over the limit a second time, she will be upgraded to unlimited and it will cost £10 a month?0 -
Needs to have line rental with bt?0

Thats an easy one.
What will I be charged?
What you're charged depends on how long is left to run on your minimum contract period. The tables below show how much you're charged for each month remaining. So for example, if you have six months left on your telephone service Unlimited Weekend Plan minimum contract period, you'll have to pay a charge of £5.00 multiplied by six, which is £30. You may also have to pay a charge for any equipment we have provided at a reduced cost for use with the service you are ending – see our terms and conditions or Tariff Guide for more details.
Full Terms & Conditions Telephone Service Monthly Charge Line Rental Only £5.00 Unlimited Weekend Calls £5.00 Unlimited Evening & Weekend Calls £5.75 Unlimited Anytime Calls £8.00 Unlimited Weekend Plan £5.00 Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan £5.75 Unlimited Anytime Plan £6.75 Unlimited Anytime Plan Plus £8.75That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
And they don't do it automatically, you do get warning emails that they are going to upgrade.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Sorry, I'm not quite sure what you mean? She had an email last month to say she'd gone over her limit and she's already had an email this month to say she's used over 70%, so what happens if she goes over the limit this month? Does she or doesn't she get upgraded automatically?0 -

I managed to have a look at her "over 70%" warning email today and it says....
".......if you go over your monthly allowance twice within a 6-month period we'll automatically move you up to Sky Broadband Unlimited.....
......If you'd like a higher usage allowance right away, you can upgrade to our Sky Broadband Unlimited package for another 12 months. Sky TV customers pay just £12.50 a month (or £7.50 a month with Sky Talk), and you'll be free to use the internet as much as you like......"
So it seems to suggest it'll be £12.50 even though she's a TV customer, rather than £10 which I think is what you meant, so I guess they've changed it?
Rather than tie herself down for 12 months as upgrading straight away would do, I guess she may as well wait for them to upgrade her automatically. Although it seems she would be better off getting a different deal at a lower price anyway.0 -
You have the correct figures, I was quoting from memory She will have to work out what's best yo do regarding moving Line rental. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
