hi i am just looking for some advise on my situation.

In 2010 i purchased a 32" sony lcd tv from JL for £400. It has now developed an intermittent fault where by it randomly turns off and the menus on screen freeze then the TV restarts.

JL have sent someone out to look at it and couldn't find a fault. it was then sent away to be looked at. they couldn't find anything causing the fault suggesting that its fine. after a bit of back and forth discussion i have agreed for it to be replaced but there is nothing of the same spec for the price. i purchased it for its full hd screen, USB media player, free view hd tuner, and large number of connections as well as it being smart? allowing you to use lovefilm youtube on it.

unfortunately there is nothing of the same spec at the same price in JL. I cant afford to pay the extra to get an led or 3d of the exact same spec and features, and all the current lcd ones are all either not smart, not full hd or have minimal connections, basically i can find one set with all the features of my old one which are all imporant to my needs.

as there all led and 3d now and there are not many lcds of this spec for some reason i dont feel i should, nor can afford to by one of the same spec at a higher price because led and 3d are the only comparable ones and nor should i have to compromise and get an inferior lcd set.

what can i do?

    What's wrong with this one?
    http://www.johnlewis.com/samsung-ue32f5500-led-hd-1080p-smart-tv-32-with-freeview-hd/p433369

It is full HD, Smart, built in Freeview, has USB playback so the same spec you have mentioned for the exact same price.

    Or there is this one
    http://www.johnlewis.com/samsung-ue32f5000-led-hd-1080p-tv-32-with-freeview-hd/p439161

Has everything you asked for except smart, but it is £100 less than you were looking for and you can pick up a blu rya player with built in smart for around £50
  • yes apologies it is a sony kdl32ex403,

As Fosterdog mentions JL have a number of TVs that would be probably be as good, if not better than your old one for the same price or lower.

my problem is that it has to have a certain number of ports for example 4 hdmis, 2 of which i need on the side of the tv due to my setup and equipment and running cables etc. also things like 2 scarts plus component.

i cant seem to find all of this on one set.

i know these are little things but they are important for my needs and when i got the tv i spent alot of time finding it to make sure it fitted my needs. i could have opted of a cheaper less reputable brand or lower speced but had to select this for my needs

im also not concerned about getting my self a free Blu ray player or anything else free for that matter as i have no need for it and just require a tv of the same spec.

I believe the terms would be similar spec.

It is unrealistic to expect old technology to be on new TVs so why can't you use a HDMI splitter or Scart splitter.

Unfortunately, you're not going to find anything with two scarts in these days.

Your being unreasonable, JL are doing there part, if you can't afford to upgrade then pick the model that best suits you, your not going to get them to upgrade you for free.

If you really can't do without the old features, get a new Samsung sell it and buy a KDL-32EX403 on ebay. :<

They seem to be worth £150-£200.

Personally I'd live with the new one and try to reorganise my connections.

HDMI cables can be extended/joined with a component that costs about £2. You can buy hdmi and scart switches that won't be much if you just get a basic one. A working tv has to be better than a broken one, even if there is a little inconvenience making it fit.
