I've recently returned from Spain. While in the airport we noticed a fair number of small dogs on leads or in pet carriers, speaking to an owner (my Spanish ain't great), it appears dogs upto 6kg can travel on the plane as checked in baggage.
Anyone done this or aware of the process?

It depends on the airline and the route. Generally the LoCos don't carry animals apart from assistance dogs.it appears dogs upto 6kg can travel on the plane as checked in baggage
As an example, a friend rescued a dog from Spain to Italy, though they flew to Spain with Easyjet, they had to return with Alitalia0

I prefer them to most children as they don't kick the back of your seat and have better eating habits.0

While my dog is well behaved, I can't picture him on a plane for hours - he would territory spray every other seat post within an hour. Then try to scavange through empty meal containers.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

Is this referring to pets flying in the cabin with the passengers? Does this really happen? I am so allergic to animals that if I were on a plane with someone's furry friend they would need to be making a detour to the nearest place with a hospital before the plane had barely even taken off. I know loads of people with similar reactions so I am definitely not alone in that. I also have food allergies (lucky me) so I always travel with lots of antihistamines, inhalers and 2 epipens but many people who are allergic to animals probably don't...0

With a dog like that you would really need to be careful where you flew to.
That sort of behaviour would be heavily frowned upon on a BA flight to New York, but on a Club 18-30 charter flight to Magaluf, your mutt would probably end up on quite a few Facebook friends lists.0

Hey Daisi! Yeah, it seems to very common with internal flights in the US. (From looking at trip advisor). I think it's just unusual for us, with all the pet passports and hassle with travelling with pets abroad, people tend to avoid it if possible. How do you cope with guide dogs etc out of curiosity? Or have you just been lucky so far?
Hope you are doing well! :T0 :T0

Eek now I am really worried about our internal flight in the US this year!
I have so far never been on a plane where someone has had a guide dog so I just haven't come across it. In other areas it's not so bad really - can always move/go and get some fresh air if there are dogs around. I have got off trains in the past if someone has a dog with them. But I think being stuck on a plane with one would NOT be good. I can't go to anyone's house who has dogs or cats, even if they vacuum seconds before me arriving and I dose up on antihistamines - I still can't breathe. I am a funny creature though because as I mentioned before I have severe food allergies (which is actually extremely rare despite half the population claiming to have allergies lol) so I think it is all linked to that. My stupid immune system just all messed up! So no, I don't know how I would cope with a guide dog on a flight, either.
I wonder what would happen if I got to the airport and in the departure lounge was someone with a dog travelling on the same flight - do you think the airline would put me on a different flight? It can't be that uncommon a problem - I thought lots of people were allergic to animals!
Hope you are well too 0 0

I didn't mean to put 'very' there, think it is just more common. Not sure what would happen, I guess they could move you or the pet away, if the plane is big would it be a problem?
Tbh I don't think people have allergies as severe as you. I am allergic to cat hair, but it comes on like hayfever, not very pleasant, and I would be asking to move etc, but it wouldn't do me any harm.
I have no idea! Try asking on trip advisor? Or ask the airline?:T0
