Jem, very sorry to hear about such difficult times. I hope they manage to keep him comfortable and perhaps even get him back to his old self.

Hi Sheila - yes, that was only one of the things I loved about living in Suffolk - you'd be down some country lane, turn a corner and there was a stack of lovely garden produce or eggs for sale - bunches of flowers, pickled eggs, beetroot - I've bought them all. Selection of eggs - bantam, hen, duck. Fab. I do miss that.

I sell all my eggs at the door, people love free range eggs.......:D..Weve got a lady who grows all her own plants , really good qaulity plants ,perennials , shrubs , veg plants etc, very much cheaper than garden centres a few miles from me, I always give her loads of plastic pots, and she gives me egg boxes:D........

WMF....Where did you live in Suffolk.?, if you dont mind me asking .........

Jem- thinking of you and your family, my prayers for your FIL.
Monnogran- How I laughed at the picture of you and your runner beans, only because I have been telling mine they have their own poles, they don't have to share. I am so lucky I have no neighbours to witness my madness.
Fuddle- My youngest was a terrible eater, no vegetables, wouldn't eat a roast dinner, yet she loved soup and sweet night on a Monday night and the soup was, liquidized roast dinner.
Hope everyone else is feeling well.

Oh Jem, you are going through it at the moment. You must wonder what can happen next. Lots of loving thoughts and prayers for you and your family, especially your FIL. Never mind cleaning, just be kind to yourself.

Mrs LW: Coleus Canina! That's the little beggar. I knew I could rely on you.

Tea and cake is a nice idea but we will do it on a Sunday evening when they all come up for their meal and food bank. The church is right next to the hall so it will be easy for them to pop in there if they want to. The Rev will be there to dispense hugs and tissues. It is difficult to arrange anything different for them as we have no way of contacting them and don't know where they are from one day to the next. It's a shifting population. Anyway, they know where to find us on a Sunday.

SAHMs UNITE. Even when my boys were quite grown up they used to open the door to come in and shout, "MUM", even if they didn't want me for anything in particular. Of course, after the divorce I had to work but fortunately had school hours so I was usually there to greet them. Even in their forties they like to know where I am at all times. Now I think it's to make sure I'm still alive and haven't fallen off my perch while they weren't looking.

Hope you all get a good night's sleep.

SAHM's have my support...I know what it meant to me in my childhood...though again I realise that though I did not realise it, times were tough.

Just seen the MP for my area has spoken about the rise in Food Banks and sadly my town now has two:(

I'll just lift this from my blog. Remember the fruit bowl?

I have bought a lime green bowl and transferred the fruit into that. The bowl I was using will now be put to use when I need to mix flour or batter when I get back into baking cakes or bread again.

Now I have no idea if I'll ever really use them but I have purchased a 2ltr cool bag in green with carry handles or shoulder strap. I now have a picnic blanket/rug that's a little thicker than a normal one, that's in blue. Better than a beach towel. I have a purchased one mug in the same colour as the fruit bowl. I was going to buy a plate and cutlery too but in a slightly different coloured green I found I could have four bowls, cutlery and plates for less than one of each of the others I was considering.

I don't really go out for picnics or far from home and my rucksack does me fine, being single. However, if I get to the Proms in the Park this weekend and the weather is fine and I have to be there early in case a fair crowd turns up I thought I can take the rug and a cushion to lay down on and be a bit more comfortable.

If the weather is hot I can perhaps take some fruit, a salad or rolls. A couple of small lagers in the cool bag. Perhaps a small bottle of cola. In the rucksack I can carry a small flask of hot water so I can make some tea or coffee. The picnic rug has a handle but I think I can put it in the rucksack. And as the day goes on they will become lighter.

The biggest problem I have is no matter how careful I am, I keep breaking/chipping mugs without often realising. I will have to replace some of those soon.

As well as the official food bank we run our own community food bank as not everyone who is short of food or money qualifies for the official stuff. Sometimes it's just a family whose wages didn't stretch quite as far through the week as they should have done, sometimes unexpected bills cause hardship. Whatever, we don't judge we just provide. The other week we had a clothes swap session too, entry fee was a tin for the community food, all clothes were free. It was a total success.

If anyone is interested our local @sda had jars of mince meat for 20p today. Use by date Dec 15. May be worth a look.
