I posted earlier about becoming a SAHM and Fuddle suggested I come over here to see you guys. Not entirely sure, maybe I am being over sensitive but someone suggested maybe I need to get better organised :-(. It's not about that for me, it's about being able to spend quality time with my family and not the snatched moments they get when I have 5 mins for them.
Is there a small amount of stigma attached to being a SAHM? I can't imagine anything better than being able to provide my family with fresh home cooked meals, time to chat to stressed teenagers, homemaking
Moments, welcome to the doorstep.
A homemaker is a great thing to be. There used to be stigma attached to not being a SAHM, now maybe its swung the other way, but in the end it comes down to what is right for you and your family.0 -

TBH, being a working/SAH mum is such a bone of contention, we can't win whatever we do. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks. (Apart from your family of course, they matter!)
Thank you, it does appear to me that either way I can't win but my family are happy for me to become a SAHM. I am not materialistic in any way and whilst I think it's great people have nice new cars, big houses etc it has never been a motivation to me. Being a Wife and Mum has always been far more important than whether I shop in Marks and Spencer's or Waitrose etc.0 -
I agree with Alfsmum, you do what is right for you and your family if you can afford to and are not forced to go against your principles by government policies etc..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

JENNY I can't remember the exact name of the gel crystals but He Who Knows says they had something very similar at B&Q and to go to thier website and put in a search on Cat Repellants, that should give you the product name, hope that helps.
Hello MOMENTS, I'm really glad to see you over here, I think it's no ones business to critisize what you feel you'd like to do, I think if you want to stay at home and it isn't going to be too much of a struggle financially then you should follow your head and heart and give it a try. I personally don't think it has anything to do with becoming more organised, it is about what will make you fulfilled in YOUR life, I love being a homemaker and you can stick any label on that you like, but it's what makes ME happy. I've done part time work as a Dinner Lady when the youngest started school and later when she decided that she wanted to study medicine at uni I got a job and banked all my wages to have the fees for her before she went, so she didn't incur too big a student debt. What I do here at home IS my job, it's what I'm good at and it gives us a very comfortable life together, I find all aspects very rewarding and to be honest, I don't pay any attention to those dissenting voices that say 'you should be out earning' I add more value by using our available resources to the best of my ability and experience than I ever could be being employed. It really is no ones choice but yours pet, and if you do decide to be a stay at home mum, I hope you come to enjoy your life as much and as completely as I do mine, Love Lyn xxx.0 -
Thank you so much for your kind comments.
Jenny, I think this may be the cat repellent gel you are looking for?

My d-I-l took me to the cinema to see the last Harry Potter film when it came out and thought it hilarious that I hadn't been for over 16 years.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:But that was because by the time we had paid bus fares for 2 adults and 2 boys plus the cost of entry it was far more than we could afford even back then. I had better things to spend money on, such as clothes and food - DS2 had hollow legs as well as the ability to hole any pair of boots in the first week, even Doc Martens.:eek::eek:
Congratulations on the win Pooky:T
And I'm glad your foot is not broken Kezlou. Hope wearing that heavy boot does not tire you out too much.
Welcome to moments-of-sanity. MrsLW is right as usual. Don't pay any attention to what others may say or think. Do what is right for you and your family.
Now I've got to go and clean the rest of the rice pudding off the slow cooker - its proving to be even harder work than had anticipated.:(:(Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0 -
Well, how I look at it is - who's life is it? Theirs or yours?0

Afternoon all
Bunbun I just use cream cheese where it says marscapone in the recipe if I don't have any in the fridge and find that as long as it is a full fat one it doesn't make much difference. If you want to use a low fat one you might just find your mix isn't quite as firm.
Welcome moments of sanity and good luck with your new life as a SAHM. I am also a SAHM with 2 little ones, they both have disabilities and I was asked on the phone the other day while setting up yet another appointment for DD whether I had work commitments we needed to work around - I just laughed - as if I have time to work with 2 kids, and the big kid (DH), an OU degree, community involvement, cooking, quilting, dressmaking, printmaking and felting!
DD is currently having whale of a time on her new bouncy castle - got an ELC email with some special offers on and noticed they had a bouncy castle half price so it was only £22.50, and judging by the expression on her face it was well worth it! It's actually pretty big, almost 2 metre square and will take 3 kids and up to 100kg. The bouncy castle is her favourite bit at stay and play except with her poor speech production it sounds more like bouncing cattle when she says it - a delightful mental image!
Take care all - X0 -
Welcome Moments, you brave, brave girl. I hope you are prepared for this thread. We are all very serious on here you know. Life is real and life is earnest - absolutely no joking allowed.
I don't know why anyone should suggest that you should be better organised. I'm a SAHGrandmother and am as disorganised as I ever was. You can waste a whole lot of time being organised, time that could be better spent enjoying your family, your home and your LIFE.
Cinemas? I've slept through Harry Potter (all of them), Pirates of the Caribean, and other things that the Rev dragged me to assuring me that I would enjoy them. It's hopeless. I make myself comfortable, it's warm and dark and I am away.
People with 'cat-on-garden' problems: I remember getting some lion dung years ago when I had a problem with deer. They loved it. Travelled many miles apparently to get a sniff of it, before gorging themselves on my roses and cosmos. As for cats, they don't like citronella, or there is a plant you can get that is supposed to keep them off. Can't remember what it's called. but someone here will know. My money's on Mrs LW.
I have just gone out to my front garden (I use the term 'garden' loosely) and watered the dandelions. Welllllll, they are the only things growing in the cracked concrete that is what my clay soil turns into after 2 days without rain. I thought if I watered the ground it might be possible to pull some of the beggars out. This town is full of comedians! Most of whom just happened to be walking past while I was so employed. Obviously I'll be up at 6.00am tomorrow morning to do the weeding before anyone is about. Obviously.
The Rev found some beef casserole in the freezer which she resurrected for her lunch. I ate my virtuous salad, with a few chips, so there is a bit of casserole left over. I will use it to make pasties tomorrow, I have some raw shortcrust pastry in the freezer. Can't quite remember if it was sweet or plain but if I put enough mustard and maybe some herbs in it it should disguise the taste of sugar if it happens to be sweet. Don't you think?
I bit the bullet this morning and unpacked the bag belonging to our homeless friend who died. It was all the clothes that we had given him, and a bag with a toothbrush (still in its plastic wrapping), toothpaste, shower gel, shaving gel and 2 razors. I remember giving him the toiletries the last time he came to us. Those things and a cheap cigarette lighter comprised all his worldly goods. How sad. Next Sunday the Rev is opening the church for any of the drop-in folk to go in and light a candle or just sit quietly and think. Any sort of service would frighten them so we think this might satisfy them as lots of them have asked what they can do to mark his passing.

The thought that immediately came into my mind was "is this how the cow jumped over the moon"?:rotfl:
Glad she's enjoying it so much.
Also glad to hear fluffy kitten is doing so much better. Give it a bit longer and she might bring you a dead rat like my monsters did. I have explained again that I'm not that keen on rats but do they listen?!
