The OS Doorstep - a helpful and supportive thread in these tough times

Esther - it does feel like such a long time, and like you I know I am so much more OS than ever, and I naturally advocate OS without even thinking of it now and love to see when people take something on board and then they pass it on too
Jayzee - ((hugs))
I have had a very long week, yet another hospital appointment today this time for DS9, he now has another diagnosis to add to our collection and this one is new to me, so lots of research needed.
I also had to visit GP today under emergency appointment, I was supposed to help at DD7 school prepping for Christmas fayre, but her head teacher, who doesnt even like me, took me aside and said I am worried, your chest sounds awful and that cough I have heard before in really sick people, please take the time this morning to go be seen, if you want to come back and help later that is fine, I am not chasing you away, but I am worried about you. So I took the hint and went, I have pleurisy again and she thinks pneumonia yet again as well.
After a debate over hospital admissions she relented and has given me lots of meds, I have promised to seek urgent help if it worsens and I have to go back Tuesday.
After all that and much more today I took kids out to dinner, local pub does a sharing platter which was great for kids, cheaper than McD, and DD and I got special offer as well. Was just lovely not to have to cook, tidy away, sort dishes etc0 -
Kid cat PLEASE get some rest! I worry that all your running around is unsustainable and you'll be seriously ill for a long period. there's a reason that on planes the adults are told to put their own air masks on first before attending to those dependent on them.
I know now isn't the time to work out how to reshuffle life, but you need to let go of the spinning plates, retreat to make yourself well and trust that the rest of them will muddle through. Once you are well, you can carry on whichever of their ideas work best.
Lecture over (sorry!), but in the spirit of taking my own advice.... GP has given me antibiotics and a cough suppressant so that I can sleep. The kids have been in to school late every day this week and I've refused to answer calls from work or check my emails for 3 days. The world still turns and I am feeling better for it: I'm going to cancel playdates for the weekend. The children may have fishfingers 3 times over the next few days. I am going to stay in my pyjamas, knit and watch TV until I am properly over this infection and can enjoy life again.:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
Kidcat take care of yourself. I wish you had more help so you could rest.
Hugs to everyone else.0 -
LOBBYLUD: the world won't stop because the kids have to eat fish fingers for the next few days. You do what ever you have to to get yourself well again.
KIDKAT. wish I had an answer for you. You really do need to stop and rest but I know that is near impossible for you. Hope you get the help you need, as we were all saying to Sheila, you can't look after others if your too ill yourself. I'm sorry, I'm sure you know that.

Thank you - I am planning on doing little tomorrow - may even get to skip dance as another mum has messaged to volunteer to take her for me.
Told OH he needs to plan meals and arrange his own way of returning from getting car to garage, and a friend has called to say she will do any shopping if DD19 writes her a list, she is off tomorrow so is able to help, she usually has her grandchildren at weekends and works all week, but has a rare day off.0 -

Hi.
Floss: No we don't swap. The Ministers looking for a new church write a profile about themselves, the churches looking for a new minister write a profile about themselves, then a committee of wise men (:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:) look at them both and try to match them up. Not always successfully!
Esther: You are spot on.
About OS, I find it difficult when people ask me what particular things I do or can I give them any tips. Being born before the war and having grown up with rationing and austerity, being OS is just part of who I am. When you grow up in a time when even bread, potatoes and soap are rationed and you are very, very lucky to have enough coal for a fire in the winter, everything else seems like a wonderful bonus. Sometimes I still have to pinch myself when I see, what to me, are the luxuries I have in my house.
Mrs LW: thanks for your lovely thoughts. We will be in Somerset on Monday and Tuesday and the decision should be made within a couple of days after that. Yes, it is indeed a light at the end of the tunnel although my dear DIL is in denial and won't believe it is happening.
Kidcat: OUCH! Pleurisy is painful. I had it once and hope never to have it again. You are so exhausted and run down that it's little wonder you pick up these things. I know there is nothing you can do about your work load, and it's all very well us telling you to rest - I bet you'd just love the opportunity - but please don't do ONE unnecessary thing. And cosset yourself in whatever little ways you can WITHOUT FEELING GUILTY. Got that?
lobbylud: no child ever died of malnutrition because they had to eat fish fingers three times in a row. You are being very sensible.
So am I. I'm off to bed.

Shegar - Rainbow BridgeI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Molly - thank you for the link to Rainbow Bridge.
Monna - good news, fingers crossed for next week.
Pooky, Kidcat & other feeling euch, hope you're all on the mend soon.
I was really interested in what Esther said in her post about OS. I have been a very long time lurker on the thread and must post more often I know. Since 2006 my life has changed a lot. I have moved 200 miles to a cheaper to run house etc. I now grow vegetables, have a second freezer to bulk cook and buy bargains, and I am very MSE when it comes to shopping. I don't have the heating and hot water on as a matter of course, just when I really need them.
I wouldn't have thought about any of these things in the past, which is why I ended up seduced by credit and with £50k debt. Fortunately that is now almost behind us.
Have a great day everyone.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
Morning everyone.
Awful night here. Had OH waking me every couple of hours with sickness. Seems he has a cold in his tummy. Not great timing, Work for him is picking up & its also his grand fathers 75th birthday & meal this evening. So It looks like we're off out to find something to calm his tummy.
Doggers seem to be a little off too. Just wanting to lay in front of the fire. If I turn it off, I then have two sroppy faces looking at me and OH complaining its "freezing"
Mon - Sounds great, Some parts of somerset are to die for. Lovely costal walks, fresh air, good food. I think the rev & you will enjoy life there, But as you say, Its the loved ones you leave behind x
Kidcat, You MUST start giving yourself some rest. Otherwise you'll be no good for your children & OH. xx
Those who have lost furbabies......Hugs xFuture goals:
Become debt free.
Beat Depression.
Be happy & healthy0
