Katie your optician would probably repair your specs for free, after all good service means you will go back and give him huge wads of cash again. Oh took his back to Mr T and they fixed the nose bit for him last week.

I bought one of the turkey drumsticks from Mr M the other day. Its the full leg for £3 and it cooked up lovely and tender. have decided to empty the big freezer this week and re-fill it with packs of meat before the prices go up for Chrimbo. Am going to buy 3 of the drumsticks because theres loads of meat on them, this one was 1.6 kg  So far I have made 4 portions of curry, turkey pie and theres a good bit left for butties. I think cooked meat for sandwiches is now a total waste of money, over processed rubbish so buy cooked shank off the market or if Im flush the £10 leg of lamb which makes lots of meals.

Yes the optician here is pretty good, last year when the frame of my reading specs broke, he took the lenses out and stuck them in an old frame of mine, no charge and he did it there and then. Super service TBH.

We started cooking meat for sarnies. Much better, and you know what's been put on it if there are allergies in the family.

Just come back from Mr T...found the Quality Street Fruit Cremes for £2... I had to stand back & watch as a box jumped into my trolley :D I was very happy to see that they are plain choccy, which is my fave!

I bought a slow cooker tonight - a Crock Pot, £17, 3.5 litre. Will be using it to cook the Y/S oxtail I picked up :)

Am about to begin an uncertain period at work - I work for my local council which has to find £16m of savings and lose several hundred jobs. I have to go to a meeting tomorrow about a recent review of the team i work in. All i can say is TGIF tomorrow!

Meant to say, saw that they have started doing free-range/outdoor reared pork in Aldi, joints and chops, tenderloins etc we got a nice sized leg joint for £5.63, not huge, but will cook and cut well for cold.

I hope no-one minds my earlier post about parents' eve. I have been thinking about it and I know it sounds like bragging.... well I am really but I have no-one else to tell at the moment. In the past I would have phoned my mum or sister. I can't say too much to friends with children as it sounds like I am boasting in the wrong sort of way IYKWIM? My children have had their own challenges in the past and finally they both seem so much more self confident and doing so well. They both have some anxiety issues still so to hear how well they are doing in school brings me such incredible joy and I wanted to share it.

No idea how long it will take or successful it will be...I've put in the slow cooker two chicken breasts wrapped in streaky bacon...two small sausages. Cauliflower, potato, broccali, carrot, leek, swede and gravy. We'll just see what happens...don't care how long it takes to cook.

Update:Its worked and on high setting, ready in 6 hours, cooked easier than the HM soup and quicker. But as I don't it for Breakfast I've turned it down to low and may have to eat it for Lunch. And save the rest for another day. Always learning.

Good to see you are eating well, saw your post about the guy mentioning your place being a bit chilly. I think he is just looking out for you pops rather than wishing to cause trouble.

There has been a lot of publicity about people living alone and no one bothering to check they are warm enough, got food and any help they need, especially in winter.

You can tell a lot about how well some one is coping by little things, like is there washing on the maiden, fresh food in the fridge, generally tidy, heating on in the cold weather, you get the idea.?

I am sure that as he sees you taking care of yourself well, that over time the visits will become less.
