Jem I use a 4mm hook with DK wool. I taught myself via YouTube. There will be tutorials on there that give you step by step visual an audio instructions. It's difficult to grasp at first but once you get confident of the first few steps its really good.
  • FUDDLE have just re-read you post this morning about your sister refusing to help with your Mum. Do you really need the hassle that comes with the pair of them my lovely? they sound quite similar from the outside and both very self centered as personalities. The cutting you out of the will thing is just another control mechanism, to keep you feeling guilty and dancing to the tune of thier calling. Would it be easier to just think I don't care any more and stop playing. I do know how it feels when family play mind games and had to stand away from mine to keep my sanity and I've had a better and much more tranquil life since then. What we have we got by our own efforts, just like you and your lovely supportive OH, do you really need the ups and downs they give you for a part of your mums estate? or would it be better for you to say I don't give a damn and make your own life with your own plans and live the way you want to, difficult, but they upset you at every turn and I would like you to be happy, Love Lyn xxx.

LYN......That was what Indone last week , got 2 trailer loads of wood in store ready for the winter, and got it stacked up inthe dry but well ventilated , its seasoned nicely , was cut down last april , so time I burn it it will be down 18 months........

God it was hard work getting it and carting it here but its worth it , I do have GCH , but I do like my fire a light of a evening , it does save a bit of gas , but also I love to watch the flames and it keep the one room nice and warm,,we dont use the other parts of the house of a evening , so I have the fire a light approx 5 hours each day..........From about 4 pm to 9 pm....

I did get 8 hundred weight of house coal the other week , so im well set up now for winter , whatever it throws at us, and good thing its paid for...:D.....

Been nice again today , no rain , sunny and bit of cloud........

FUDDLE.......Thats something to look forward to , having a house with a woodburner or open fire , you will enjoy that ..........Dont much fancy thatch and open fires , this past few years there seems to be so many house fires with thatch , but there you have to be careful whatever you do and live if you have open fires, and im sure you will be........

Im gonna sit on my butt for the evening now, as im sick of keep working today , everywhere I look there seems to be a job to do ,:rotfl:sod watering the garden tonight , ...............My feet need a good few hours with me off them to try heal them, so painful, hope you all have a peaceful evening ....Sheila

Hi pleasecould someone point me in the right direction for the lemon curd cake I have spent the last day looking for it but can't find it.

    Lemon Curd Cake
    100g margarine
75g castor sugar (i use granulated)
    2 eggs
    175g self-raising flour
    1 jar lemon curd

Heat the oven to 180 degrees. Grease /line a loaf tin
Mix all of the ingredients in a bowl and mix together till binded.
Then pour the cake mixture into the loaf tin and level the top so its straightish.
Place in oven and bake for approximately 40 minutes until browned.

    Apparently to die for! :D

    Evening All,
    Lots to catch up on...

Neighbour tidied my hedge up so as promised I said I could not have him do it for free so I found some Carlsberg Export 12 bottles for £6(normally £9)and the small 4 packs are £5.75. I think I got a bargain on the drink and also not having to do the work either.

    And I'm sure he's happy!

I took another trip to Darlington hoping the Summer Spectacular would be more popular...it wasn't. The live music stage was lucky if 6 people were watching(and think most of them were waiting to do a turn themselves)

I saw perhaps 5 extra stalls and even the normal Saturday market was struggling.

A failure and nothing like the publicity given to the event or like the report in the local press(they were not at the same event that I was)

An image of the market place and the few stalls and people present...double click on image to enlarge...

I popped into Poundland and found some hessian bags for storing potatoes and onions to make them last longer...I think I'll get some more as I think they'll keep cauliflowers longer too. May work for bananas...

Got some permanant markers, shaving gel and something else too, I forget what though.

Its turned horrible weather wise. So I am now indoors and plan not to go anywhere. Just listen to the radio...

Mobility slow and tired now I am home but the heel pain has improved thankfully. Starting to think it may have been caused by gout.

Mr T basics is lovely too.

Shegar I'm not too fussed about thatch either but I would adore a wood burner. I will have made it the day I move in to a house with a wood burner (but we'll ignore the fact that it'll be rented eh ;) )

Lyn I've been thinking much the same through the day. DH said if it happened and sister kept all (my dad's inheritance) the inheritance given the situation then she would be showing her true colours. I'm finding talking about money at the moment really uncomfy. My mam is about to lose her daughter and grand kids and all the focus is on money. It's pathetic, manipulative behaviour designed to get some sort of reaction from me. I'm keeping tight lipped while all the while getting angrier and angrier - it's just going to make the split easier in me.

We will make this move happen if we can control it. DH has said he will stay in the tent down there until we can get our deposit back on this house and I will go stay with MIL for a month to accrue rent etc. Nothing is ideal but every possible strategy will be thought of in order to make this move a reality.
  • Fuddle that is the spirit! I know this move is going to be hard for your family for awhile--but your mention of your OH needing a place to stay made me think of something called couchsurfing. There is a website, a bit like freecyle/gumtree where people list their sofa online as a place for travellers to stay. While I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for a young and naive person travelling on their own, a few of my friends have had good experiences and you might find some lovely person in the new area willing to help your husband out. Just a thought!

Pops, you're better than we are! We headed out, packed sandwiches and all, and then turned back as the weather was too bad. We were worried the garden centre might close as it is staffed by volunteers and didn't want to risk wasting the train fare. It is only £1.90, but still, we work hard to combine journeys etc! We came home, had a long chat about budgeting once our circumstances change, food, and a few other things. I then headed upstairs and had a lovely time collecting new recipes then settled down with a huge pile of ironing and some mending. I ironed until I ran out of hangers and then did the mending. So it was a nice afternoon anyway.

I got my test results and everything is in good order! Glad it is all over and done with now.

My ironing and cleaning out has revealed that I need to really declutter the clothes I own, again. When I moved to the UK I'd been living in L.A. and Turkey so I mostly had very light weight clothing. A lot of it was put into storage as I thought I'd only be here a year:rotfl: I've gained weight, become on friendly terms with charity shops and acquired things more appropriate to the climate and my current size. Then my mum kindly got my things out of storage and brought it over and now its all a jumble. I essentially have two complete wardrobes with a mismatch of sizes and seasonality. Living without a wardrobe to put it away in for so long, much of it has been stored in boxes so I'm working out what is still serviceable and what can be donated. I still have a very large summer wardrobe, much of it made by my mum. I find it hard to part with the things she has made, but slowly but surely I think I'm getting it down to a practical scale. I'm also keeping an eye out for more professional type clothing in the CS. She taught me well, I remember as a child her starting to look for clothing about a year before she thought she would need it, just to ensure she would not have to buy new but could either make it or get it second hand.

Right, it sounds as if the football is finished so I'd better make the tea. A peach panzanella--one of my supersix discoveries!
  • Melymay, welcome! Shingles sounds miserable! I wish I could offer some sort of ideas for respite, all I can say is keep it up with the wine if that is working!x
