A good point about uniform is that you dont have to spend as much on leisure clothes. Mine always changed out of their uniforms when they got home and either got into their PJ's in winter or shorts/tee shirt for summer and playing out. I had to spend less on normal clothes and could spend a little more on uniform. I used to have to save up all year though.
That is a real good point Molly. I've found over these holidays that my two haven't much in the way of leisure clothes now they're at school.
Lyn that is what I fear. 2 quiet little girls getting into trouble because I can't afford a blazer. That's where my frustrations come from because it sounds like that could be a real possibility. That's why I say I have to fight it.0 -
FUDDLE M'dear you are the best mum I know of, you do your utmost for your girls, you put them before yourself in every area of life, I know you'd fight tooth and nail for thier rights, I just really, really wish you didn't have to and that there was less compulsion and much more compassion in the way people are treated these days. Vjs - autumn and winter are my months, I love them. I love drawing the curtains, lighting the lamps and candles and making my house cosy. Cosy to me is having to snuggle up with a blanket, not turning the heating up. I like different areas of the house to be different temperatures. I also love the smell of autumn and winter, the cold sharp air with a hint of woodsmoke. The smells of warm comforting foods cooking and the the harvesting opportunities. For us it's wine making time at the beginning of autumn and there's always a gentle undercurrent of yeasty fruitiness in this house with demijohns plopping away merrily.
I love the countdown the Christmas, not for any religious reasons (as we dont subscribe) but for the family time, extended family and the traditions we have as a family.
I love the colours of autumn and winter too, the mellow sunrises and sunsets of autumns and the colour of the trees, later on in proper winter the stark cold light and the darkness of the nights.
I love being able to wear clothes without feeling manky hot and sweaty and I love hunkering down and keeping my family safe and warm.

Fuddle why not check out the uniform policy of the schools you might like eldest DD to go to. Forewarned is forearmed.0 -
Just back from my hols to bushels of runner beans and tons of courgettes/marrows. Have switched on here and realise to my horror that I have about 30 pages to read before I've caught up on all the news. Not doing it tonight as guess what I'm doing tomorrow....go on....yep, lunch for 25.
Nice(ish) to be back.

Girls' uniform would actually have been cheaper in this case as the boys have to have all the rugby stuff. Also I did get a hooded top which it says is optional, because I know that they pretty much all have them.
Sigh. He had better let me take a few pictures of him with all this clobber on!0 -
VJsmum I feel the same way, but there are a couple of things I like - making warming food like stews and baked potatoes, etc. and cuddling up in a big warm fleece with the fire on - oh and lovely fluffy socks!
The other thing I do is have a winter project like a quilt or some crochet. I find it comforting to have something to pick up on horrible days when I can't go in the garden.
I sympathise with uniform woes - one of the kids I work with regularly has the collar edging partly ripped off his jumper. I think the other kids do it for a laugh, because it's a running joke that it never gets mended at home, or replaced. I've started to take it off him and stitch it up when I can.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.
