  • Mrs. VP, I do the same with freezing the supersix--and as you said particularly peppers. I also freeze blueberries if they're on as I like to use them in cakes but can't justify the price otherwise.

When you freeze peppers, do they end up really watery when you cook them? As that's what I don't like about frozen peppers, I've stopped using them in stirfries for that reason.
Tonight's dinner was a very easy Ainsley Harriott's risotto - the super cheap ones from Approved Foods. I love this and wish I'd bought more of them. I shall have to wait and see if there are more of them as 75p for a quick easy dinner for 4 can't be bad.
  • OOh, GQ how exciting! I mean, it sounds like a lot of hard work, but it will be so satisfying when it is finished.

Feel I must brag:) We had a home grown courgette in our tea! We had one about a week ago but it was quite small. I think I'll have several others by the end of next week. I know it is nothing like what some of you grow, but I'm so proud of myself for getting stuck in when we moved in in June. I didn't know if anything would work:)
  • Posession, yes they are soggy and a bit floppier than fresh. They don't stir fry as nicely either. However, they're fine for adding to soups, chilli, spag bol etc. I also roast the red/yellow/orange ones to use in place of roasted red peppers.

If you have loads of peppers, you can slow-roast them in the oven (while it's on for something else, of course) until they start to look caramelised, then put them in clean jars and cover them with good quality olive oil. Hey presto - your own supply of roasted peppers in olive oil - good to use in stews or on bruschetta, in salads, with barbecued meats, as a tapas meal ingredient......or as a light luch with good cheese, a few olives and other nibbly bits and bread. Check the price of jars of peppers in the supermarkets....

I can't believe I have to justify any of this on the tough thread. I will fight for the good of my children no matter who it is or what the situation is. I won't apologise for that.

fuddle- I am not having a go at you, I was simply trying to explain how it currently is here for children in my area - if you choose to fight the system that is your choice, I was trying to explain that its likely not a fight that can be won easily. Certainly here I know not one parent has won at our old High school.

I certainly wasnt asking you to justify anything at all and am offended that at the tone of your last post if I am honest. I was merely attempting to explain how incredibly hard it is for parents in my area at this time of year.

Sorry if you thought I was having a go - I truly wasn't, more of a "heads up" for something to beware of. High school is a different beast to primary for sure, and the kids themselves change such a lot too.

Wll, I had Jacks kidney bean burgers and blooming lovely they were too and not too much of a faff. She recommends having them with mango chutney and it certainly gave them a lift, I will put some chilli in my next lot though. OH and I ate the lot between us but I reckon the whole meal was less than a pound.

    Anyone seen this?

Hey, one of my cars was called The Killer Tomato. It was very red and had been pimped with go-faster stripes (not by me) and used to turn the heads of the young and silly wherever I went.

Too tired to think of another name but inspiration may strike tomorrow.

I've just had a read. Of course, as I suspect everyone here and anyone else who watches their shopping budget knows, this isn't surprising. It seems there is always something.
