  • We used to treat veruccas with salicylic acid plasters which you got from the pharmacy. They were dark green and impregnated with the acid and you cut off a piece of plaster big enough to cover the verucca then covered that with sticky plaster and it gradually softened the verucca and skin around it to the point where it lifted out. Old fashioned but they may still be available. It's certainly the easiest way to deal with them that I know of, Cheers Lyn xxx.

kezlou my ds14 has had braces since January. he sucked his thumb and his top front teeth stuck out. He qualifies for free treatment but I did think what would we do if we had to pay as it is alot of money and we couldn't afford it. I would definately get a second opinion and see if he needs them. Ds's front teeth were rubbing on his bottom lip and giving him ulcers. His teeth have moved back alot and the difference is very visible. ds12 is being referred as he 'might' need braces but if he doesn't qualify (as I suspect he won't) we will probably leave it.

I had years of wearing a brace and although my teeth don't stick out anymore they have moved and now cross over.

fuddle enjoy dorset. which part are you going to? we are off there for our hols soon.

princess I second your OH going to the GP about his verrucas. I had them for years but they didn't bleed. I also used salicylic acid and they went almost straightaway. you can buy it in a bottle.

as complete os novices we looking to grow fruit and veg next year. Aldi are selling fruit trees from tomorrow, is it worth buying from there or would we be wasting our money?

OH and ds12 are decorating the hallway:eek:

  • BUNBUN DD has not bought from ALdi but has from Wilkos and has had fruit from the blackcurrant bush planted in the autumn, and the rhubarb planted last year is thriving. I've had expensive fruit trees from well known producers through the post which have never even put out leaves, there is every chance that the ALdi ones will be fine, give it a go! good luck, Cheers Lyn xxx.

Lyn, We are trying to tidy the garden here, it was a mess when we moved in so OH is doing it little by little do you think we could get the fruit trees in now. Or should we wait until next year when the garden is better.

    Thanks Denise

Princess, I have heard of the duct tape treatment too and it gives good results. My DS had one for 6 months and the GP did nothing, he was in agony and leaving a trail of blood, eventually it did go but I think your OH has had to suffer far too long for my liking. Hope you sort it one way or another.

Grandma, the fabric from the shop you recommended has been a godsend, I have made so much from the pile I bought and still have loads left. Im going to tackle the coat today, it will have to come to pieces as its yoked and I think it will be easier. If it works Im going to keep the bits and will have sorted my coat problems for life as I love the style. Hmmmm could also use it to make my dressing gown but without a collar ... the world of haute couture beckons :rotfl: Glad the kelp is having a positive effect for you, relief from pain is wonderful.

    Afternoon All,
Agree with all that has been said this morning, great advice and likewise I think the talk of the good vitamins, kelp etc...really can't add anything.

Dorset is lovely(well a lot of it is)but you know that I am biased.

I didn't go into great detail about the weekend(did that on my blog)but towards the end of Sunday I found that three parks I wish to visit are on bus/railway routes in the Stockton/Middlesbrough area so it will be much easier than I thought. Preston Park, Stewart Park and Albert Park.

I don't agree with how Halal meat is obtained but on the same bus route there are two big food outlets that look interesting both sell specialist foods that I'd like to look around. The Halal place sells much more than meat.

There's nothing like that around here. But I hear so much of such places being great on variety, quality and price so want to look inside sometime soon. They are on Linthorpe Road, M'boro. I think Kezlou and Fuddle will probably know all the above places I have mentioned.

I found an Asian supermarket(Chinese/Taiwan food)in Newcastle near the bus station last time I was there too.

I am typing away and I was supposed to be in Whitby or Staithes today. I have found out it is so easy to get there, I have to do it. I have no excuses now.

Did I mention I came home from the food event in Saltburn with some lovely treats? A jar of honey and ginger, cheeses(all cheddar)but they are so different...one has added strawberries and cream, another is sticky toffee and one has raisins.

The following images that may make you smile...

    DSC00724.JPG

This couple kept walking and cycling around the food event(one was obviously male:rotfl:)and they had a big old fashioned radio on the back of the bike playing 50's music...anyone old enough to admit remembering Housewive's Choice on the radio?(That theme kept being played at various times during the day)

    DSC00708.JPG

And this trio played all day around Saltburn for hours and hours, what stamina.

  • Hi DENISE If you have decided which part of the garden is going to be your fruit area there is no reason not to sort that bit out first and plant yourselves some fruit trees now, it will give you one area less to sort out next spring and will give the trees time to establish well for next years growing season. DD put in a pear tree late last autumn and although it had blossom this spring no fruit set, so I think getting the trees in early and keeping them watered will give them a better start and you might get some fruit from them next autumn, Cheers Lyn xxx.

I don't know if this would work for verrucas but I got rid of a wart that was growing at the side of my thumbnail with repeated applications of Olbas oil.
I did not recognise it as a wart for a long time because it was flatish and followed the line of my nail from the nail bed up. I found pictures on google. It started to get bigger and itchy so I went in search of an alternative cure and found some of the suggested oils were in the oil that I already had. I put one drop on every time I sat at the computer (about three times a day) for about two weeks then left it. I forgot about it for a while the looked one day and realised it had got smaller, it has almost gone now.

Ginny copy the pieces onto lining wall paper or grease proof paper. I forgot to say take photos before you take it apart so you can see how it goes together and any details you want to copy.
