OH has made falafel for tea. He saw a mix at one of the supermarkets we went to on Saturday and said he fancied trying it. It was quite tasty, although a bit salty. We don't have any device for grinding the chickpeas ourselves, but might look into trying to get them pre-ground--not really sure. He has been reading a bit and has said he thinks we should probably try and eat even less meat next year. I used to eat very little but found it very hard to fill him up on a budget without resorting to meat sometimes so I'm a bit worried! I'm sure it will be fun to experiment.

If you don't have a food processor to crunch up your soaked chickpeas you can add cold water to gram flour to get much to same effect - although you will need to tinker with the seasoning to taste of course.

Make very crunchy coated little falafels - which the kids eat by the bucket.

Back in the early to mid 1970's, me & my 2 older brothers all had all four of our number 6 teeth out to make sure the rest grew straight, first one side then the other 6 months later when we were 10/11. Our dentist didn't believe in braces or orthodontics. He was our school dentist, a huge chap with hairy hands called Mr Franks - all the kids called him Mr Frankenstein :P It worked though, no problems until a wisdom tooth became impacted when I was 18 so that was taken out too.

Thats the thing I'm unsure whether ds1 needs. What really got to me is that they said he would have to wear a retainer on the night for the rest of life. When I asked why the nurse said its just in case the teeth move again. I also didn't like the selling pitch and being made to feel guilty.

We are with an nhs dentist, but they referred us to a private orthodontist. Sure a brace. I'm sorry but at our last, dentist they never mentioned it before.

I have a teeth mould but to be honest its made my, teeth grinding worse. As it raises my back gum s up which, it really painful.

We had salad, potato salad and, ys pizza, for tea very nice it was too:)

  • Thanks for the falafel suggestions!

Rosanna, I've just made curtains from fleece this week. I did not do curtain tape, but instead did what in the states is called a rod pocket--I suppose it would be a curtain pole pocket here? The window has blinds attached by the landlord, which are oddly outside the window frame where a curtain should hang, so I've put the curtains beneath it, as I want the insulation. They don't look terrible, although if it were my house and I had more money to spend I would prefer to do it differently. As a stop gap, I think they'll be fine and I've prettied them up with a contrasting valence and tassel ties to hold them open during the day. From the outside they look like ordinary curtains. I think a thin fleece blanket would probably be fine with curtain tape. It will not hang quite as elegantly as fabric that has more weight to it, but the drape isn't all that bad. hth.x

I also have fleece lined curtains - I just tacked the fleece in along the top. It's actually that really cheap pale blue fleece blanket that Ikea were doing for a whole quid a few years ago as we were really skint at the time. If I were doing it now I'd splash out on the £3 white fleece as it is slightly thicker and would be a better match to the curtain but it'd be a waste of the ones I've got to swap them for nothing more than a different colour!

savingqueen, the stress-induced stomach pains sound like IBS to me - I have it so you have my sympathy! I find @sda peppermint antacid tablets helpful - four rolls of tablets for £2ish, and they have peppermint oil which is an anti-spasmodic.

thanks twofishes, DH takes those for his indigestion as well. I am going to start logging my symptoms for a while before I make an appointment with the docs. I have had a few bouts (months apart) of what seems like severe indigestion as well with awful chest pains (first time I wondered if I was having a heart attack they were so bad). I know I need to loose weight and sort out my diet so I will also start a food diary.

    ok confession time.....

I have a couple nagging symptoms I should get checked - had my blood pressure taken on a whim at the chemists a couple of months back which was on the low side and needs rechecking. Over due for over 40s health MOT but no appointments spare, think they have forgotten me. Eye test way overdue. Two cyst type spots on my face I have had for years (eeek) and now a funny little red patch on my leg which looks like the far bigger patches my mum has on her legs due to poor circulation (and I had a DVT in my arm years ago.) I bet none of these are anything BUT I must get some appointments made as I would nag others to do the same. Might have to wait til the kids back at school though as don't like taking them with me unless an emergency.

Actually been chasing DH's cholesterol check for over a year as he was a bit high for his over 40 health check but still no appointment for him. Its terrible really that they haven't recalled him anyway.

I've got to start shifting the weight and exercising more at my age with two young children. I am hoping this public confession/declaration will push me into taking action. I feel very :o and guilty. I guess at least I don't smoke, drink much alcohol or drink too much caffeine.

ok off to bed now and tomorrow I will start a health diary to get on track (I did go to the dentist a few weeks ago for my 6 month check so not all bad :D)

    take care all

Hope you are feeling a bit better elona and the car is sorted now. Those phone calls must be a right pain in the derriere. Hope tomorrow is nicer for you and DH.

SDG - nice to see you posting again, sounds like you need some hugs. Well done for making and keeping your appointment, small steps in the right direction is the way to go. Keep on posting, it helps to talk and we are good listeners, you're not on your own love.

Hugs to anyone and everyone in need - apologies for being behind with posts. I am reading backwards and forgetting posts and not sure I will be able to fully catch up. Maybe I'll just try and keep up with new posts. Hello also to lovely newbies and welcome to the gang.

And changing the subject - might not be to everyone's taste but I often make lasagne as I did tonight with a cheat's b!chamel sauce - very quick and healthy. Just use natural yoghurt (basics is fine though a bit runny) sprinkled with some grated cheese for the white sauce. It has a tangy taste but we like it and it means I only have to make the meat sauce. Thought it might help someone, I sometimes make lasagne just to use up a pot of natural yoghurt (don't try it with fruit yoghurt ha ha!)

must get my beauty sleep, need all the help I can get nowdays :D

    night night
