His union rep is doing it on his behalf OH has just phoned her to see if there is an update and she is on holiday till next Tuesday. it might have been nice is she had told him she would be off. maybe it is just me but I though out of curtousy she would have told him.saving for ds2's summer international scout camp - £200

Aternoon All,
Fate eh? Worrying times/exciting times...another year of the same...
Fuddle, for many years we all wanted to move to Dorset(it never happened)so a little envious if it happens for you and your family. Things do happen...it wasn't a case of listening in, you couldn't help it everyone could hear.
In short OH sent a form in to drive buses in Scotland on a Tuesday, was offered an interview by the Friday of the same week.
He works less hours, is paid more and there was talk of some regular bonus in the deal, so she's been alone(with child)since June here. Now she's moving to join him in the next few months.
The weather has really changed as Kezlou has confirmed. Its rained through the night and continues to. Luckily, it stayed fine at the weekend for my travels(think how the brass band concert would have been spoilt on Saturday and the food festival on Sunday.
Won't go into details here but I needed to use all my wits to get around and I was so tired by the end of the weekend, the rain is probably welcome as I have no excuse for going out. I even dozed off coming home on the bus yesterday that's how tired I was.
If I manage to save a little. The treats I came home with were no more expensive than supermarket food(possibly cheaper)Lovely cheese and honey.
Here's a great story of how a musician/singer is looking after his own career but trying to help a famous brass band that is struggling financially and now also those who need to use food banks. Sad it has come to this too."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

ArthriticOldThing wrote: »Another favourite recipe of my sons was OH's Corned Beef Hash. He made it with sliced potatoes, sliced onions and corned beef (cut really thinly and spread out). When times were extremely tough he would cut down on the corned beef and add butter beans. Layer the lot in a casserole dish, finish with potatoes on top, add beef stock (from cubes) and bake in over for hour or so til top layer of potato is brown and crispy. can be served on its own or with veg on side....
In our house this was Corned Beef Hotpot! My exH used to make Corned Beef Hash in the pressure cooker with spuds, corned beef & sliced onion. It was scrummy with brown sauce or Branston...I came down with DH's cold last night and felt horrible. Came downstairs to make three breakfasts (none for me), did a massive pile of dishes and made huge pot of potato and leek soup. Also have pizza dough in breadmaker for pizza whirls for lunch (no time to make ordinary dough). Was just about to put my feet up with a hot drink when youngest asked what was for lunch and when I told her she started objecting we were going to be having that at the weekend as well etc etc. My throat hurt too much to snap that she could do her own cooking or was perfectly welcome to go out in the rain herself for something as I am not setting foot outside today!!! So I just suggested (very maturely - not) that I throw it in the bin  andand stomped upstairs with a hot drink ....
Big Hug...I think if I'd had that treatment when ill, I'd have shut the kitchen altogether & told them to manage without me.0 -
Thanks floss2
We have just sat down to bowls of blended leek and potato soup with a couple of garlic whirls . Everything got scoffed and dd was very quiet
Have puff pastry defrosting and planning to use up braising steak from butcher with onions, carrots and potato to make individual pies with a pastry lid for tonight. Gone upstairs having loaded dishwasher and cleared up a bit.
Older dd comes home this weekend and we should have a houseful of people so I want to shift this virus as fast as possible. DH has nearly lost his voice for a week and sounds like Hissing Sid so have been shovelling lemon and honey at him.
Virtual hug as I don't want to pass on germs."This site is addictive!"

Afternoon toughies and am sending ((hugs)) all around as it seems they are needed by lots of people
It is a very grey day here and lots of rain, so we have stayed in and attacked a big clean up instead, well sort of, I lost my energy half way through so its a start rather than a job completed.:o
DD7 has swim lessons later so I will have to find my energy for then but I may well see if I can grab a quick nap and get DD18 to watch the kids for me. I am getting little sleep at the moment as both boys are not sleeping much at all, DS15 in particular is finding it very difficult and has started storming into me in bed and demanding sleeping pills! Its been 3am for the last few days before I know they are both fully settled, OH gets up for work at 4am, so I find I am not getting any real sleep until 5am, and then the littlies are up at 8am.
Fuddle - I second the idea of calling TC to do a deal with them, I have found most people report that they are not as bad to deal with as many other departments.
Corned beef hash appears to vary dramatically depending on area - here it usually consists if half a tin of corned beef chopped really small and added to a huge pan of mash, maybe some onions mixed in as well, then all putting in a huge pot in the oven to get all crispy on top, served with pickled cabbage or beetroot. My nan used to make it stretch to feed 15/20 people easily.
I hated it as a child but really love it now, although no-one else does so its not something I make regularly at all.
My kids hate soups and stews too so I struggle with those, I have found if I make giant yorkshire puddings and serve stew in those I can get away with more
I usually make my own batter but AF often have offers for yorkshire batter mix which works out so cheap and economical, it goes a long way too.
I have recollections of my nan cooking batter for us to - deep fried, she would dribble the batter mix into the pan and it was lovely with salt and vinegar.0
