morning everyone, payday is finally here yay!!!!

Pooky, I too need to know everything before I let my girls stay over. Maybe for lads it is different? When DD stays at her BF house I know she has her own room and bed. I also know the parents and have visited their house. It may seem a bit ott, but I do care.

It is already really hot here. I am having the treat today - eldest DD is painting my toe nails and hand nails. It is a one off treat, but I am so excited.

Tomorrow OH is off work and we are venturing to London for the day. We were going to go by train but it will cost far too much, so we are sharing the driving. Wish me luck....... We are going to covent garden for a mooch around and probably we will end up at lakeside and then ikea.

All the talk of pets, DD boyfriends dog has gone missing. Its a 3 years old Labrador and he has escaped/been stolen. He is micro chipped. DD is so upset as the dog is very placid and friendly.

Well its very hot and sunny here. Washing is on.

Have a good day everyone x

Morning all, from a train to London. Next stop (well later today) is Lille and then the south of France tomorrow. We are so lucky to get free train travel, and an amount abroad too, I will never take it for granted.

Low carb /low GI is a really good way of eating for me. Can't cut them out completely as I crave them too much, but few carbs works. It's morning I had porridge for break kid (although I did have it with golden syrup and cream :o sorry, Mar) and I would generally have soup or salad for lunch (sorry Mar :p:p) and then have a little carb stuff in the evening. Colleagues can't believe I eat so little for lunch, yesterday I had a small ice cream tub full of leaves with tomato feta and olives and it saw me through to tea time. They were eating 3 rounds of sandwiches and packets of crisps , they are all a lot more overweight than I am and I think it's the carbs which spike their sugar levels. Won't stop me eating croissants this week though :D

My sister is wearing herself out with some intense work out regime, but then eats pot noodles and other rubbish. I can't help thinking that if she ate better, she could slow down the intense exercise. Moderation in all things, including moderation as me old mum used to say.

So, my kindle is loaded with a dozen new books - probably more as one of those is the complete works of F Scott Fitzgerald, and another is the complete works of George Elliot. Should keep me out of trouble.

I may check in from time to time as we have wifi in our gite, but hopefully will be out and about enjoying the sun.

Have a good couple of weeks all. I hope the sun continues to shine for those who want it. Looks like some heavy rain in the south east and east Anglia over the weekend.

    Hi all,

Another Friday and I am trying to catch up on posts, the thread moves so quickly! First of all sorry for everyone who is dealing with illness or family illness, my thoughts are with you.

sounds like I need a trip to ikea if they are selling lots of things off
jem132 a sewing area sounds great, what sort of things do you sew?

VJsmum how do you manage the free train travel? sounds like a great trip.

Last year I lost over 3stone by watching what I ate (calorie counting) and some exercise, I had so much extra confidence. When I started this I realised the best way to "spend" the calories was on protein and vegetables that filled me up and really reduced the carbs. I have put a few pounds on lately, but lost 3 this week so back on track. I have about another stone to hit my BMI target but the loss has slowed down.

This week I have been looking after a family member's garden, so thank goodness it has rained a bit or I wouldn't be able to keep up with the watering after work. As a result I have got lots of free strawbs and rasps, very nice. The blackcurrants are ready but I am trying to leave them until they are back next week, do you think this is ok or should I pick them too and freeze them for them? I don't want to eat everything!!

I did also have a kohl rabi - I had never had this before, had it peeled and raw in a salad last night, really lovely.

The slugs have made an appearance on my courgettes, hopefully will keep under control with the beer trap.

Fish van came round again this morning, what a lovely man, but I think maybe I spent a little too much as I got some trout that was more than I thought - hopefully can get 2 portions per fillet out of it.

    Enjoy your day everyone :D

    Hello everyone :)

I have been reading along with you all, but seem to have hit a patch of something that has a few depression like elements without feeling depressed. More emotional and suffering from inertia than anything else. I'm trying to pluck up the courage to go and see my GP and to see if I can get some counselling.

I have been trying to knit a baby cardigan for a friend's daughter. The baby is due at the end of September. However the way it is going I might have the beeping thing finished by the baby's 1st birthday. I made a mistake and have just unravelled the whole of the back as it is 4 ply wool and I couldn't pick up the stitches after I unravelled down to the mistake. Fingers crossed the next attempt goes smoothly.

Tomorrow is going to be spent trawling the charity shops in town for things to make a Disney themed fancy dress outfit. I'm either going to be Edna Mode from The Incredibles, Mary Poppins or Princess Leia. It all depends on what turns up. I figure that if all else fails I'll go as one of the card soldiers from Alice in Wonderland or buy a cheap summer dress and cover it in chalk dust. If anyone has any bright ideas they would be gratefully received. The party is on 10th August.

Time for lunch before I head off to the shop and see what is available there.

    Love to everyone xxx

POOKEY: I too would have checked with parents. Even when my son said his mate said it was ok for him to stay over, I checked with the mum to make sure. She seemed surprised at the time, but I remember a friends son telling his parents he was staying at a mates and the police picking them up for something in the middle of the night. The mate had said he was staying at my friends. Kids eh?

Have to say I think the kelp is doing the trick for me too - the downside to operation big boy bed is that the are both getting up earlier and because they have both actually got out of bed they are too awake to snooze for a bit longer so I've been up earlier all week and am not feeling as tired as I would usually do. Been taking them about 2 weeks now and definitely feel a little perkier - don't half feel hungry at the moment though, I'm eating loads but trying to stick to nice healthy snacks. Mind you the kids' physio would probably be pleased to see me put a little bit of weight on as I tend to have problems the other way and have a nasty tendency to lose too much weight when I'm stressed! He's always nagging me that when I'm too thin there is more strain on my back.

Off to pack the last few bits in the car do last minute wees and go and pick DH up from SpeccySavers as he has his new goggles to pick up after he finishes work. Better have a quick tidy round before we leave too as otherwise we'll not know if we get burgled!! Mind you on the up side the blighters would probably break a leg tripping over the assorted kids toys littering the place!! lol

Have a good weekend all - Hugs X

I really should be doing something this afternoon, but am shattered from a)DS waking up ill last night, b)weather too muggy to sleep and I only had 2 hours sleep total and c)too many carbs the last few days, so am feeling VERY sleepy! :D I'm hoping the kelp tablets will start to work soon, if they're going to, only been about a week, very half heartedly at that.

Question for those with autistic people in their families: a friend and I have been talking about another, mutual friend, and we are convinced from observations (and my little experience of working with slightly autistic children) that her OH and both children all have some form of autism, maybe Aspergers. How do we broach this possibility with her, given that she has loads of other stuff going on in her life? We don't think she'd be shut off to the idea, it may be a relief and answer some questions in many ways, but just don't want to upset her and load her plate too much right now.

We're having to lend money again to a relative who keeps having things "going wrong" for her, long saga that we thought was finally ending, but has flared up again, so we'll be short during August - good job my freezer and pantry are full is all I can say! :rotfl:

Hi everyone, lovely and hot here in Lincolnshire - shame a house 2 doors down is being renovated by the council. They are renewing the central heating so lots of drilling and banging going on.

We have an update re 'the dog' a local vet was approached about a Labrador and he checked for a micro chip and he has been found!!!! Some lovely person found him wandering and waited until the local vets opened and asked them for help. I know microchipping can be expensive but it relocated a lost little man with his mummy and daddy.

Ive had my nails painted and I feel very posh!! they are purple on my hands and bright pink on my toes.

OH has decided tomorrow is a covent garden day, never been before so would love to know if anyone has been. are there any nice tea rooms etc ?? I asked if we can go to ike@ and he said no. Oh well I cant argue can I?? after all we know that if we go in we always find something that we need!! even if we didn't know before hand that we did.

right must get some more jobs done, too hot really to hoover but must press on. Take care everyone x

vjsmum have a wonderful holiday - enjoy letting the train take the strain!!!
