Hi Jem. Our house is an all electric house. We use an average of £1.41 a day but I am sure that will go up soon when the heating costs begin to show.0 -

I think gas is much cheaper/value for money (am I right?) than electricity jem.
The only reason we bought a microwave was because we had to use the electric rings on the cooker. They were eating the electricity.
I know with our wash cycle I use the quickest cycle on the highest spin. I then re-spin for 12 minutes. You wouldn't think it would have much effect but because our tumble dryer has a sensor that knocks off itself when dry, I can see that it does help because the dryer isn't on anywhere near as long as a load that hasn't had a re-spin.
I also don't have a dishwasher and having had one in the previous house, I know how they effect the electricity consumption.0 -
Jem and use plain flour all the time to make bread.
Another gluten avoider here
I use 500 grams of plain flour to make loaves, focaccia, pizza dough you name it, I make it with plain.
Another one is self raising flour mixed with water and cinnamon. Makes great pancakes.
Another thing I do for bread is half plain flour and half bread flour.
I never use all bread flour, my body can't tolerate it in the slightest0 -

When I had my neuro surgery I had to keep my head lower or the same height as my body. I took some nurses gloves and decided to crawl to the en-suite loo. As i was about to enter the loo the door opened and i ended up looking at 5 pairs of shoes as the consultant and his entourage came in for their ward round:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Anyway hope you recover well Sheila xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Morning all,
Sheila, I hope you are being well looked after--even if it takes a bit of bossing about!
Jem, We average between £2-3 in the summer/day for gas and elec. without any heating on. I work from home, so usually have 1-2 lights on, and run a lap top. I also microwave my lunch and will do a few chores here and there, often a wash. However, there are only two of us in the evenings, we don't have a tv (although we watch catch up on the computer), we don't have any gaming things etc.
If you have a smart meter, then try to look at the graph for a day (ours is online). Ours peaks in the evenings when we're making dinner, so oven more likely to be on, more lights on in kitchen and dining room as I go back and forth, radio on for news etc. I've heard electric showers can really spike them, but we haven't had one while we've had a smart meter, so if it spikes when you're all having showers that might be the culprit!
Long day yesterday, but a bit of good news work wise. Time to get back to the slog today. I think it is jacket spuds for tea. Will go out into the garden and bring in some chives. I think we've the remains of a pot of soured cream in the fridge, and i'll do some grated cheese. OH can have tuna as well if his legs are feeling a bit hollow. He usually eats two anyway. We don't have any baked beans in, but he likes those on jacket spuds (he is the only one who eats them and then only on spuds so we dont keep them in), so trying to think of other ways to jazz them up.
For those of you who like this sort of thing--I'm reading Nella Last's War--its a collection of her letters to the Mass Observation project during WWII. She just writes about daily life, cooking, her children and the women's voluntary service. Its a nice peek into 'ordinary' living. The BBC ran a film adaptation of it over the summer, but the book has a lot more detail. She talks about having quick meals on the go and piecing together mattresses for sailors etc.0 -
