Hey FUDDLE glad the new fridge/freezer has arrived, lovely that you had the wherewithall to buy it and didn't have to make do without while you saved up or get another second hand one, well done you. If littlest DD wants crochet puppies can I send you that wool we won on freecycle now? you can make her a whole litter of puppies then and maybe make some granny squares for the blanket too. Well done on taking on the emergency cover for the weekend, even better well done for surviving the weekend with the extra duties, you're a good'un!!! Lyn xxx.0

Morning everyone
Looks like we'll be having wet dog smell in the kitchen again today, I wonder why we don't get any visitors
I'm sure we used to collect chickweed for the budgies when we were kids, I'm not sure though.

Chickweed used to be collected and sold in markets as a crop for feeding birds so quite likely you did PIC and also groundsel? our budgies loved it. We still do harvest lots of wild food for Olaf the guinea pig who prefers it to cultivated veg and fruit. We pick him dandelions, sow thistle, oraches, shepherds purse, clover, groundsel, hairy bitter cress, dead nettles, borage (always some in the garden) and he chomps the lot with relish!!!0

Morning all. I am sitting here eating toast with jam on that was made (not by me) without using sugar, so just purish fruit really. Not a lot of difference on taste, but maybe it is better for my teeth.
Mrs LW, I have popped on here to ask a favour as it would seem you have lots of wartime recipes. During the war, my grandmother got a recipe from a womens mag for some no cook fudge. It was made with condensed milk, cocoa powder, milk powder and some other things, was just mixed together, pressed flat on a plate and hardened in the fridge. Obviously I don't have the complete recipe and have never been able to replicate it. Anything in your books? Pretty please?Spend less now, work less later.0 -
JAZZEE I'll go through my books today and see if I can find anything similar and let you know Lynxxx.0

We'd make good use of the wool Lyn! The top part of the puppy's head is crocheted. I heard her come into our room gone 6.30am and heard a little breath of excitement. Bless, little things. I am hoping to do a blanket, dog basket, bone and bowl for her. Only now eldest is looking for stuffed kitten patterns!
Burgers and salad/potato salad this evening and I think we'll have cheese on toast for lunch. I am wondering if anyone know where to get toastie bags from? I use them in one of my lady's homes and it makes me cry for cheese and onion toasties.
We have to get the netting for the produce ASAP as the birds are taking an interest and ramping that interest up!0 -
FUDDLE it will be in the post today!!!
JAZZEE can't find a fudge recipe using condensed milk in any of my wartime books howsomever a search online has thrown up a 'No Cook Chocolate Fudge' recipe which might be similar go to http://uktv.co.uk/food/recipe/aid/641035 and put in a search for 'no cook chocolate fudge recipe and see if that's anything like your original recipe, let me know how it goes if you do make it, it's an option for christms presents, Lyn xxx.

Is it technically moneysaving to buy budgies to eat the chickweed? Also they might provide an interesting new hobby/live amusement for the cat.... maybe not good for their wee mental state though.0
