OP have you had the issue investigated for a possible repair? Dont believe all you hear. Those who say SD boilers are carp and they cant fix them are really making more of a judgement on their own abilities. Boilers are boilers..you can either fix them or you cant. I have repaired many an SD boiler in the past and they can be fixed just like any other.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

My Vaillant boiler works much more effectively than my previous SD one did . That SD boiler is still working in my old flat so has lasted quite a while but I much prefer my current one.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
  • I had a new boiler fitted last year a Viessmann , german not had any problems used a local installer a lot cheaper than british gas have quoted you , and because he was one of their approved installers we were given an extended warrantey up to five years.

If you can give a vague idea were you live you may find local people may recommend a good cheap local installer.

The Vaillant is better in my view. The SD one made awful noises and heated less effectively.

SD boilers are cheapo Itallian rubbish (sorry!)

    Viessman are real good engineering.

Worcester Bosch ok but overrated I think . . .

Some swear by Valiant and they seem like a good enough brand.

Personally we had a good Potterton/Baxi line we were installing

    - It is a very subjective thing!

An English make should mean cheaper maintenance. Also go for a little company.

A local gas engineer will do the best job for the best price!
I was going to put the name of my plumbing business here so you know what I do should I give out any advice plumbing wise - however apparently I cant do that - go figure!!!!!
New signature - I am a Plumber (I am just not allowed to tell you!)

Ok. More quotes available. Two independents:

    1. Attend site and protect areas to be worked in with cotton twill dustsheets.
Isolate gas, water, and electrical supplies to existing Saunier Duval combination boiler.
    Drain heating system.
Remove existing wall hung combination boiler.
Flush heating system with chemical cleaner.
Supply and fit new wall mounted boiler, in existing boiler position, altering pipe work to suit.
Supply and fit Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRV’s) on all but bathroom and hallway radiators.
Fill and vent system adding suitable corrosion inhibitor.
    Test and commission boiler.
    Fill out warranty forms.
Register installation with The Gas Safe Register.
Clear rubbish generated by works and leave site tidy.

    Worcester Greenstar 28i Junior (2 Yr Warranty)£1979.87

    Worcester Greenstar 29CDI Classic (5 Yrs Warranty)£2092.42

    Baxi Duo-Tec 28HE (7 Yrs Warranty)£1839.00

    Baxi Platinum 28HE(10 Yrs Warranty)£1997.00

    NOTES

Approximate duration of works: 1/2 days.

With all new boiler installations we would recommend the fitting of a permanent ‘Magna clean’ filter just under the boiler.
This can be supplied for an extra material cost of £87.00. Fitting would, of course, be free of charge.

Upgrading to a Programmable Wireless Room Thermostat will cost £65.00

Making good will be carried out around the flue hole.

New pipe work and making good will be left ready for decoration.

    2.
Power flush the system inclu each individual radiator. Add corrosion inhibitor.

Decommission existing boiler. Make good flue hole.

Run water main to and from the boiler inclu magnetic scale reducer.

Connect 22mm gas supply and test.

    Honeywell CM927 wireless programmable thermostat.

Spirotap MB3 filter on the return pipe.

Vaillant Ecotec Plus 824. £2290 plus VAT

Intergas Combi Compact HRE 24/18. £2020 plus VAT.

Spirotap Magnabooster 2 £140 plus VAT.

    All advice gratefully received!
    Thank you.

I live in a one bed, first floor flat. I have four radiators. The current boiler is a Saunier Duvall installed in 2001. The hot water to the kitchen sink fluctuates significantly. It's normally only at about 20*c. If I turn the heating on it might start to heat up the water. Sometimes I need to turn the heating on and have the tap on full blast for the water to start heating up.

The shower temperature also fluctuates. I find I'm regularly turning the hot or cold tap up or down depending what the water's doing during my shower.

We don't plan to stay in the flat forever. We should be gone in less than five years. British Gas have quoted £2600 for a Worcester 24i High Efficiency but I think I could get a Baxi or Potterton Gold for less.

Any advice would be gratefully received!

    Thank you.

I had terrible recurrant problems with my Saunier Duvaill combi, it was awful. I now have a Worcester and it's fantastic in comparison.
