Hamper as a wedding gift? SO RUDE!

Options
...the response from the bride, not the giving!

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/06/21/wedding-hamper-sparks-furious-row-bride-complains-cheap-embarrassing-gift_n_3477237.html?1371811244&ncid=edlinkusaolp00000008

This is an incredible story. We made sure to say presence over presents, I would never dream of responding to such a thoughtful gift in this way! Has anyone else ever encountered a response like this?

i REALLY dont wish to upset anyone, but the "covering your plate cost" and expecting people to pay for everything to be in your wedding is an american custom
having said that, the bride is just a rude person, nothing to do with where she comes from

The couple filled a hamper with biscuits, sweet, fancy condiments and specialty foods for the newlyweds– along with a note which read “Life is delicious – enjoy!”

I actually really like this idea!! :)

    I think it's a terrible attitude.
When we got married we didn't even give a thought to what gifts we would receive. The most important thing for us was the exchanging of vows and having family and friends with us to celebrate the occasion.
The bride complaining sounds like a very ungracious mare.

    Nonsense
In America - There's a vast range of gift giving customs -from pinning money onto the couple..... to a horror of cash- must be a gift-from a list and everything in between as you'd expect with an diverse immigrant population.

This wedding however .....................was in Canada ! So not sure why American customs are relevant !!

I do too-I'd be thrilled to get something like this as a gift (but apparently one half of the couple is gluten intolerant or something)

According to a radio article I thought they said the one complaining was Italian.

Never been to a wedding yet that gives envelopes of cash instead of gifts.
I thought brown envelopes stuffed with cash were the preserve of dodgy sportsmen. lol

"Angry US bride attacks wedding guests after she received 'cheap and embarrassing' food hamper containing marshmallow fluff and croutons as gift"

that was the exact wording of the headline i read, copied and pasted
that is why i assumed it was a US bride

Further down in the article from the link in this thread it says:

Laura, an Italian native who declined to giver her surname, told the Toronto Star neither she nor her Croatian bride had ever been to a wedding where guests didn’t give cash.
