Anybody clued up on car stereos?
Mate has just bought a DVD car stereo and wanted to add freeview to it. Ebay were selling car specific freeview players for around £50 but we're looking at doing it cheaper.
Can you run a standard freeview box on a car stereo? Asda's cheap ones have a 12volt adaptor so theres no need for an inverter for the power.
The freeview box has a scart lead, rf in, rf out and an s/pdif connector on the back.
any ideas what will be needed to connect it up?
cheers

It all depends on the head unit you will need to get a cable from one of the freeview box outputs to the input on the head unit.
It is possible to get most cables with scart on 1 end and another video connector on the other composite is the most common video connector you know the yellow connector on most things.0 -

What aerial are you planning to use?
I would assume you need a powered amplified aerial and I think you may be better off fitting a battery in the boot to cope with the extra drain.
There was a thread about a 50 quid freeview tuner on here last week but cant find it, it was reduced from 200 apparently.0 -
apparently you can get booster aerials that works fine with it. Should be fun trying to see if we can get it to work though.0

that the product i was thinking of, reduced from 299 to 48 quid.
Its ANALOGUE so its a load of !!!!!!!!
some people also upgrade their alternator when fitting ICE equipment, but good luck with it0 -
You need one of these http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?TabID=1&ModuleNo=28102&doy=30m5 and a decent aerial. probably won't get a decent signal on the move though.0

I suggest you look at caravanning websites where running TVs in the wild is common.0
