ebay member says they have not received item!!

I sold some stuff at the end of april and posted out with recorded delivery, i checked that all items had been delivered and just recently threw away the tracking numbers. yesterday i got a message to say that he had not received item paid for on 28th April!!! does he have a case now against me? i no longer have the tracking receipt as it showed delivered weeks ago. i have told him this but he says it has not been deliverd. just wondered what the timescale was on opening a case against seller??

45 days with paypal.

Without the tracking number, you won't be able to prove delivery and will lose any case.

Did you not record the tracking number on the item sale/paypal transaction?

No I didnt record it I just checked it ticked it had been delivered and then kept it my box after 6 weeks I threw it away just thinking that all was okay. surely he cant just come 2 months later and say he hasnt received it, why has he left it so long

What about sending a polite message to the buyer stating that it was recorded delivery and it showed as delivered. You don't have to mention you've discarded the receipt.

Try going to Royal Mail website and double clicking on the tracking box, you may have left a 'footprint' and still have the number in the memory of your PC.

Buyer has to open a case within 45 days, I don't see what they can do if that time has elapsed other than do a chargeback with their cc company - their payment would have to be funded by their cc for this to be possible.

They can still leave you feedback though - they have 60 days to do this.

this works! They ususally start with a letter so go through the alphabet and you will come across it and can get the signature etc too.

Well, they always start with a letter. This is one of the rare situations when it's advantageous not to clear your browsing history.

If it's been 55 days I would try and string it out until 60 days

And this is why you always keep receipts for 45 days, though I tend to throw mine away if positive feedback is received
