Credit limits are too variable to be able to say much. Your existing debt compared to your income can have a big negative effect and having an existing financial relationship with a company can have a big positive effect.
I could say Barclaycard tend to be stingy and Egg/Virgin more generous etc, but compared to the above it is minor. Just apply for one and if it isn't enough consider apply for a second or cut back for a while.0 -
If you have a good record with your own bank, that could be a good place to start. As Reaper implied, they are often more generous with someone whose history they know.0

That certainly worked with me. I got a Lloyds Platinum card for £15K, yet
my income is only £14K. Don't know how they thought I would repay it!
However they told me that I was an A1 Lloyds customer and I got it straight away. Sadly, it's about to come to an end, and I'll have to repay it all back! It is only stooze money, as fortunately I don't have a debt. The only other good one was Egg with £10K0 -
I've got...
£15k with Egg on 0% offsetting my mortgage
£30k with Virgin on 0% offsetting my mortgage
£30K with Barclaycard. Everyday spending and pay off each month so it's free. They do have a 0% deal for new customers upto £5k but will not extend this to existing customers.
My mortgage company now pays me interest each month with the money it's offset by.0 -

I was wondering if this was a good thing to do as I've just got a mortgage myself and had a look at getting a combined account before going for the safe option for me of a fixed rate.
How much extra is the above 'stoozed' money taking off your mortgage if you dont mind me asking!0 -

When I applied for a Cahoot credit card they asked me what credit limit I would like. I asked for £5000 and got it. They are fairly competitive, I currently have an interest rate of 10% with them.0 -

Cahoot don't have 0% though do they?0 -
Unfortunatley they don't, so if your stoozing they are of no use!!!!
They are advertising 12% for new customers. I'm still getting 10% interest.0 -

I've just replaced my egg debt with a cap 1 9 month 0% BT and during the application process, over the phone, they said that it is their policy to try and match the credit limit of the card you are trying to do the BT to, in my case my egg card.
Sure enough the credit limit they gave me actually exceeded my egg limit.and short arms!0 -
What about trying Halifax -- more specifically their Cancer Research card or possibly Mencap [see the "A Suggestion For Prospective Halifaxers" thread] ?
They gave me a £9k c/l which I didn't think was bad. There's been some talk about Halifax bringing in a B/T fee, though.Expect the worst & hope for the best...0
