I've downloaded and installed ZoneAlarm on my PC, works a treat
BUT I access the internet via a laptop using a wireless connection and it would not connect until I disabled the firewall (not ideal!)
Please can anyone help me and in simple terms please explain what I need to do to configure ZoneAlarm so I can access the internet via the wireless network (I dont at this stage have a router)
Thanks in Advance!

I haven't used ZoneAlarm for a long time, but if I'm not mistaken it has an option of allowing programs to access internet through other programs, which is disabled by default. Everything depends on the architecture of the wireless driver in question, but if it invokes other modules during authentication, the process could fail half-way through (inability to authenticate, inability to obtain ip address, etc). I would try to enable that option and see what kind of program alerts will pop up.0

Today, Zone Alarm disabled my connection to the internet, all the modem settings...the lot.

Cheers
This post is by all means relevant, as it's something that happens quite often. However, I think that in this case ZA actually prevents correct dhcp assignment.0 -
Blimey bridie, not much use to us is it.

ZA free does not support ICS. Could this be the problem for a laptop wireless linked to another PC? Or does that only apply to dial-up?
= Internet Connection Sharing
When friends were setting up their office, I sent an email overnight with details from ZA forum and one of their gurus' site which needed more study, but might have meant it was possible. They'd got fed up and deleted ZA by the time I got in.
If you guys think this is relevant I'll find the old email0 -

Is there another free firewall I can download to use instead of ZA that will allow internet connection sharing?
I've just ordered a new dell pc which will be for work use and emails only, keeping the slow old pc for internet and other silly use and also have a laptop which i'd like to share broadband connection with all - have ordered a router so hopefully should make it a bit easier that way.
Thanks in advance0 -

If you could, I would find it helpful please. It may also be appropriate to add to the security FAQ sticky thingie at the top of the board.

When I had two PCs that had Zone Alarm I could share a connection through one PC to another. I was in total charge I new all the IP numbers, I was not relying on DHCP nor using wireless.
By default security products are made to start in safe and over cautious mode. They do required informed user input to be as useful as they can be.
